Link below explains situation, except I forgot to mention that Champion said Paget pads for the RS6 will not be available for a while in US because they just sent Paget a set of stock pads to work from.

Also, I should mention that a Porsche club school on 5/29 might be a way to go, rather than rushing into Chin this weekend. Going to Chin will mean not only the costs shown, but also making a special separate cross-state trip to get work done at Champion. If I wait, I'll be near Champion later anyway, and won't put an additional 400 mi now on an RS6 that's already over 18K mi.

Anyhow, here's the link; all help welcome -- especially today, but later is OK too....

http://forums.audiworld.com/rs6/msgs/3845.phtml</a

Jack,
Jordan smoked his brakes at a Chin event; it seems the stock brakes, although MASSIVE, are not suited for the track due to the high weight of the RS6.

My advice; RS6 is not a track car, and I think it is a pretty delicate/fragile car overall, so tracking it may not be the best option when you already own an S4. You've had problems with the RS6 already, and this will only contribute to the problems in my opinion.

....rather than signing up for the whole school, but he said no.

Still, I could sign up & just run a few laps anyway, eh? Just leave brakes alone, tho I'd have to get new tires a few weeks sooner than I would otherwise. Am thinking of just getting another set of Pirellis, since Luke at the Tirerack just told me the Pirellis are quieter and I have been happy with them as street tires. The Pilot Sports are better for the track, but why get them for an hour or less of track superiority & then put up with extra noise for 20K miles?

BTW Jordan seemed very upbeat about Chin in his reply on AW's rs6 forum; didn't even mention brake problems. So I'm glad you did -- thanks!

They're free and you get the idea of what it's like on the track, granted you're traveling in a long line, or parade, and only moving at 55-60mph.

Christian is right, I'd wait for the correct setup. No use messing up your car.

...so I posed the question to Wei-Shen Chin in my email to him late today that said no for the school this Saturday.

Yeah, I weaseled out. For full reasons go to my update posted below the original thread on AW's rs6 forum.

I know they don't allow that in the NE... If they allow Audis to run in their DEs... schweet!

and had another to run. But even track cars all needed to be Porsches.
ACNA, however, does not..The VIR/Summit Point events up here are majority NOT Audi's; just Audi owners' track cars (cause Audi's aren't racecars :-)).

After I emailed my turn-down for the school to Dr. Chin, he emailed me back saying I'd be allowed in the parade laps. He didn't mention money, but I mentioned "free" in my question, so I'm assuming there will be no charge.

yeah... I'm hoping my ACCNA & BMWCCA memberships will carry me into some of the events in the Orange State... Well, BMWCCA events...since there isn't any ACCNA run event yet.

Going 55-60 mph, which Dr. Chin said would be the straightaway speeds in his email to me, will at least give me an idea of what the track is like. I'd rather go faster, but don't want to mod without trying Sebring first, so this appears to be the best I can do. Unless I get a more encouraging response from my email inquiry re PBOC at Sebring on 5/29; no reply yet.
