Just bought my new 2004 225 Quattro last night at The Collection. It was a very pleasant experience. Still feels a little surreal.....like I didnt really do it :)

I've been wanting this car for so long but I almost can't believe its mine now!

What does that do to the warranty? I'm coming from an S2000 so I am used to more HP and 260 would be sweet but I don't wanna shorten the lifespan of this car. I'm already nervous about trading in my reliable Honda for my notoriously unreliable Audi, but I just couldn't resist the car :)

Audis are not notoriously unreliable...they are no way as reliable as Hondas, but overall they are on par with BMW or Benz reliability (oh, wait, Benz is now below Chevy on the JD Powers). I've owned a BMW, man....every freakin week that 318ti was at the dealer. All the horror stories about Audi reliability stem from the biturbo S4....and most agree that those cars have serious problems when abused. I see it all the time up here in Orlando. At the club meetings, whenever a teenager would show up with a new S4 (thanks daddy), the Audi techs would all take bets on how soon the turbos would blow. They are usually right on.

WELL, back to chip talk. An APR chip will boost your power and really liven up that car. Shorten lifespan of the car? No. If you take care of your car, use Mobil 1, change the oil ever 3-4K, then the chip will not have any ill effects on your car. Well, being chipped will mean that your turbo will fail at 100,000 miles rather than 115,000 miles. Very fair trade off.

Warranty? Depends on the dealer and how you treat your car. If you blow your turbo through abuse, and act like a jerk to the dealer, he will blame the turbo failure on the turbo and not warranty it. BUT, that only happens when people are real abusers of their car, and are jerks to the dealer service folks. I have owned 3 A4s, all chipped, never a problem with my dealer working on my cars (and the dealer was very aware of my chips and mods). And I have had no turbo failures.

Best advice, join the Audi Club of FL, attend some of their meetings down in Ft Lauderdale, and get to know the Audi community. There will be people with chipped TTs for you to check out, and they will tell you who to talk to when you go in for service.

Good to know :)

My statement about the Audi reliability wasn't meant to be an Audi slam (hell, I just bought one!). It was based upon all the problems that I've heard from TT owners over the last couple of model years who had serious issues with electronics failing, the mysterious power window Poltergeist, etc. Then of course, there is that whole Audi/VW ignition coil recall (which my co-worker just experienced on his A4). Lastly, I was recently informed that that in Europe, Audi just made the bottom of the list on reliablity, but Audi says thats due mostly to the ignition coil thing that affected so many of their cars.

In all fairness, I have heard from some Audi owners who never had any troubles at all, so I am hoping I get to be one of the more fortunate ones :)

These are the reasons I was hesitant about buying the car, but like I said, I love the car so much that got it anyway. I've owned three new hondas over the last 12 years and my 95 Civic is still going strong at 199,000 miles (first clutch)...heh heh. I know I wont get that kind of reliability on the TT. I just don't want to be one of those guys who sends it to the shop all the time.

Oh, I intend to join the Audi Club :)

Thanks for the tips on the chip. I might consider doing that.

I was actually surprised at how low Audi did score...but still better than average, and just after Honda(????). In looking at the results, I am also very surprised at how some of the American car companies did. I mean, come on, how the hell did Saturn get to #2, when everyone knows they are big pieces of crap. I've been forced to ride in new ones, and they are so damn cheap and flimsy. I now question the whole JD Survey if someone like Saturn can do well. I also had just read in Autoweek that Benz was lower than Chevy, but not according to this link . . . hmmm.

Audi and VW took HUGE hits in reliability thanks to the stupid coil pack problem. Thing the bugs me about that is Audi and VW found out early on that the parts were failing at near 100% levels, yet they didn't do a recall until most of those parts had already failed/replaced. If they had recalled the part, they would have kept a lot more customers, and would have done a lot better on these types of surveys. Oh well, if I wanted a car that didn't break down, I would drive a boring, soul-less Lexus. Not gonna happen

Glad you are joining the club, you'll find we are a very laid back social bunch....

survey results

Their new SUV uses a Honda V6 instead of one of the 10 available GM v6s. I dont put much stock on those ratings because if you take your car in for a headlight adjustment it is considered a "problem" or a "failure".

My coworker is taking his 2 year old S2000 in for it's 4th window regulator repair.

Cool. That's interesting to note and makes me feel a little better, although I am still likely to get the extended warranty. I tend to keep a car a long time and put a LOT of mileage on it (hence my 95 Civic).

Looking forward to meeting some of the Audi locals. I'm still active in the S2ki club. The SoFl crew has a reputation for partying hard and hanging out a lot. It was more about socializing with pool parties and a regular night for drinks at a local pub than anything :)

The National club refers to us as the "renegade chapter" and at the 12 hours of Sebring, we usually kick the keg by 3pm. This year we will be getting 2 kegs.

I would have traded you stright up. My 225 TT for your S2000. I would have an S2000 but the car scared the life out of my wife.

In all seriousness, congrats. You will love the car. The interior is unmatched and it has some pretty good snob value. It has a lot more room on the inside compared to the Honda. Enjoy!

I really would have traded!

and BMW's have.

People are less likely to bring their car in for something. They are also spending a lot less for the car.

heh I know...all my S2k buddies think I'm insane, but as I told them....

I gave up the S for the TT. I loved the S and I will miss it but the TT is more "me" and fits my lifestyle more in the long run. The S was more "tank top, shorts and baseball cap turned backwards, radio screaming, top-down" kinda fun. The TT goes better with my Kenneth Cole attire

You hit it on the head with snob value...lol. I wanted something more luxurious. I was going to buy the TT to begin with but I went for the flashier race car ride with Honda reliability (and it was also cheaper). In the end, I couldnt stop lusting for the style of the TT. I grew up in Germany and the European Bauhaus styling is really my thing.

Not calling you a fairy.....inside story about a mythical "vodka fairy" the went around distributing large amounts of Vodka at Sebring last year.

I dont know. I feel a little bit more comfortable with my '91 V8 being that it has definately been through the breakin period, and i can pretty much predict the things that will go wrong. Or ask dad. Either way, it sure is better than trying to guess when the drivers side window regulator is going to go out, or pray that my coilpacks will last the 15 trip across town...

He has let me drive it on a number of occasions, and it is one sick car (althought the TT modified will eat it alive in the power category).

When we all went out to Vail he had to drive his car to Jax and pick up his friend and drive her car back because his S2000 wouldnt hold 2 suit cases.
