View Full Version : Anyone had rides in the 99 323Ci? How does it compare to our A4 1.8T? jorge mendoza 10-24-1999, 10:45 AM help meee!!! please!!!!! Didn't really notice that it is a "smaller engined" car, even with the auto tranny -- I was testing it with my mother, who, at 50, is tired of manual trannys. It is a little plasticy for my taste, but has a lot of power. It feels quicker than the 1.8t avant we drove (tip), but I believe it has a little more power and perhaps the gearing is better in the BMW autobox. Didn't like the seats or the steering wheel. But the car felt taut, just not as nice. And this one was optioned up somewhat. Jon '96 A4qs Reg B. 11-04-1999, 05:02 AM I quite liked the 323. Engine is very smooth and felt more powerful then 1.8T My wife and I both thought the 323 felt sportier than the A4. We feel the 1.8T is more refined and offers better "fit and fininsh". And comes in Quattro. I live in Toronto and ski every other weekend from late December to early April. I'm often driving to ski country before the roads have been plowed or salted/sanded so I need a car that is excellent in the snow. Even with all of it's traction control improvements, the BMW is not (do some research on www.bimmer.org). Road salt is also an issue. Toronto also uses a lot of it. The combination of the A4's Quattro and a fully galvanized body made the decision fairly easy. If I lived in the southern USA, it would have been a tougher decision. Bottom line: both are nice cars. '00 1.8TQS (on order for Jan/Feb delivery) Brian 11-04-1999, 05:28 AM it's low enough as is (about 4"of ground clearance - without the sport package). 97 A41.8TQMS Cris 11-04-1999, 05:59 AM My car has the eibach lowering kit... The lowest point of my car (the front lower cover/crowl) is about 5 inches off the ground. Although, I am sure some people wish the A4 is that low from the factory. Cris Brian 11-04-1999, 08:13 AM - Reg B 11-04-1999, 08:49 AM Snowfall here is usually dry. I leave for the slopes before 6 AM on Saturday mornings (I'm a ski patroller)so I'm oftern on the roads before the plow have cleared all the roads. There's usually not more than 3-4 inches on roads before the plows get to them but sometimes there are drifts as deep as 6-8 inches (Hwy 24 north of Shelburne). The sports package lowers car slightly less than 1 inch. I don't expect it to be a big deal. If I lived somewhere with a more serious winter, say Montreal or Ottawa, I may be more concerned. Reg B.
