I have a 1997 a4 1.8t that produces a "clicking" sound every time I start my engine. I would like to know if anyone has the same problem as i do.. My car sounds like a diesel car now every time i start my engine.

Yes I was going to post a question about it. Im not sure if it is the same exact problem. But When I start the car in the back right (by the gas cap) I hear a clicking noise is this the same thing? Does anyone have an answer to this ?

...with our 1986 A100. At least there it was the valve-somethings (know only the German word for it). What helped was filling oil to the top mark, and eventually these valve thingies were replaced from all 5 cylinders at 100,000 km. After that, the car ran fine til about 300,000 km.

Very much to the technicians surprise, when they took the engine apart, they found a broken spring around one of the valves. Each valve had two springs around it, which press it back in (or whatever, I am not enuf savvy). On one valve, one spring was broken and was substantially helping to create this clicking noise. Maybe it was even the main cause, we will never know.
