Could someone who has done this before tell me if it's necessary to recalibrate or re-aim the light beams after I replace the bulbs?
I looked at the diagrams in the manual but haven't looked carefully enough to figure out whether it applies to the 99.5 models. The manual itself is for 1999 A4 and the 99.5 comes with a supplemental manual.
How difficult it is to change the bulbs? Anything I should watch out for? Tools?
Thanks in advance.
/Seb (got the new bulbs today) ;-)

The oils on your hands can upset the glass I guess.

Yeah, I just received them today. You are right. They don't look as blue as some of those "superwhites" or "HID-like" bulbs out there. It has a very light blue tint on the bulb.

I was going to wait until Friday to do the bulb swap but couldn't resist it so I did it tonight. It took me around 30 minutes or so just to get those darn bulbs out and put the new ones in.
I finally changed the OEM headlight bulbs (low beam) on the 99.5 A4 1.8T tonight. It was actually a little harder than I expected. I even had to remove the filter unit in order for my hand to reach down to the headlight assembly.
Talk about tight spacings, maybe Audi in mind when they designed the car that they don't want owners of A4 to change or modify OEM equipment on their own. If my hands were a little bigger, then I would've had an even tougher time just trying to get the bulbs replaced.
Anyways it's all done. My first impression is that the Jahns are a little whiter than the 99.5 OEM bulbs. I haven't noticed any significant change in light intensity (Shabbis - you are right about this) - maybe it's beause I only drove around the block for 5 minutes to test out the lights. Sure, as I look more closely, the light is whiter and a little brighter. I guess the 99.5 projection headlights are already considered as an improvment to the previous A4 models.
These are not one of those HID imitation or superwhites with dark blue glass. They have a very light tint of blue on the bulbs and the light projected is white. My question is whether the light comes from the bulb actually filters through another layer(s) of some type of projected spherical glass? Because if you stare right into the headlight, you can not see the bulb itself. All you see is big round ball with lights coming out of it.
What should I do with the extra set of bulbs now? Sell them for $10 each?! Well, according to the manual, you are supposed to have one extra set of bulbs with you for emergency use...(hmm, sounds reasonable?) sure, I'll keep them in my trunk for now. ;-)
Overall I'm satisfied with the switch. Hey, Steve, come check out my lights. They are looking cool now. >:)

P.S. I'll probably have to adjust those 'white levers' to get rid of the "STEPS" from the lights. It's really bothering me now...

My full first name is "J. Sebastian", not just "Sebastian".
My friends call me by my nickname "Seb".
Since you're using "Sebastian", then I'll stick with my "J. Seb". How's that? ;-)
