I probably should wait until I have more detail, but we're getting a nav system through my wife's company in the next few days. It's made by VDO, I think (though I don't know the model), and my suspicion is that whatever mounting hardware is included with the system to mount the screen will necessitate a fairly invasive installation procedure; i.e., requiring drilling holes in the dash or something similar.
I rather liked the mounting system Hertz used for its Magellan system in one rental car we had in CA; the screen was mounted on a flexible tube or stalk that was attached to the passenger-side floor next to the transmission tunnel. Though it likely required drilling holes in the floor, everything probably could be done under the carpeting. One nice feature of the Hertz/Magellan setup is that the screen could be turned toward the driver or toward the passenger as preferred.
Any specific advice, or perhaps guidance on web sites I might explore for mounting bits and pieces? I really would like to keep the installation as elegant and undamaging as possible.
Many thanks for any help. I will post more details when the unit arrives if I think that will make things clearer.
