I've tried removing the Delta head unit via the instructions in the FAQ. Spent about 15 minutes straight picking at the thing and couldn't release the catches. Any tips?

Perhaps you could check with an aftermarket installer in your area to see if they can loan it to you.

I got a hacksaw blade and cut it lengthwise 2 times, so I ended up with three pieces. Take 2 of the long thin pieces (throw out the one with the blade edge) and cut each one to about 6 or 7 inches long. Follow the FAQ. It's a piece of cake. I had mine out in 30 seconds. Hint: once you trip the spring clips, pull the head unit by sticking your fingers in the cassette player. Good luck.

Thanx for the help. I found an old posting and made some clips out of metal. Using a big Mag light you can see where the catch in the clip is.
One thing though - the clips are a little stiffer than the FAQ describes.

Now to make sure I get the wiring right.
