My cousin informed me that the weekend of January 29, the BMW guys will be having a two day track event at Sebring. My cousin is trying to get some of his group to drive down for the week to attend this event (its cool, he has an RX-7, no BMers in the family). Anyone heard any info on this event?

I'm a BMWCCA member (owned one for a long time) - their schools are exactly that, schools. You don't get much track time and they're expensive. If you've run with PCA or Chin, you'll most likely be disappointed. I've been doing hot lapping days with SAFE motorsports for about 2 yrs now. Can't say enough, ran Moroso last weekend, $125 for about 5 hrs of track time. Going to Homestead in about 3 weeks, $175 for the same...
Lemme know if anyone wants details on how to join...we run about 8 events per year, plus get discounted tix for the Rolex 24 and Sebring 12hr...

I was thinking of doing both. I actually don't mind the school type operation, I figure I'll learn some stuff.

Give us all the SAFE info please. I just moved to Gainesville Florida from Seattle Washington and I am looking to track my VW or Audi. I am signed up for the Chin event on the 9th and want to know what my other options are.

Annual dues ~$40 (might be a couple dollars more for the inital year, but was $40 for me to renew last year).
Currently track day fees are as follows:
Moroso $125
Sebring $140 (I think...been a while)
Homestead $175
Fees are based on the what the track charges the group for a day. Always present are SCCA corner workers, ambulance, and fire rescue.
You are guaranteed to have close to 1/2 the field as race cars (real race cars...ex Winston Cup road cars, IMSA prototypes, HSR/SVRA vintage racers (midgets to Porsches), even some 60's and 70's Trans-Am cars. There are plenty of street cars, too - you won't feel alone. Your S4 will run mid pack. My TT sees the rear end of most of the cars out there (except the Boxters!!).
Usually 8-9 events per year, feb-june and sept-dec, 1 per month (usually), discounted Rolex24 tix and Sebring tix.
If you join, keep this in mind - there are 300+ members, only 55 cars allowed per track day. Every registration form is sent out the same day (mine arrived here friday for the 10/6 Homestead event, I sent it out the same day). If you want to play, you've gotta get your registration forms out the day or the day following their arrival in your mailbox. The all fill up quickly.
Finally, to join contact:
Steve or Barbara Nix (president and registrar, respectively) at:
941-542-8614
from 8AM to 9PM
Oh...the december event is on the 8th...
Remaining events that you can get in on:
11/3 Moroso
12/6 Sebring
Hope to see (and pass) you all soon!
