I was thinking about getting the porter cable 7424

I have a Porter Cable, and it's a great machine, but it's not fast enough. The 3401 gives you a rotary action with the safety factor of the PC.

I use a Makita rotary myself. I moved up due to the excessive amount of time the PC took to get any real results.

Now if you have rotary experience, go rotary. If not, the 3401 is a good (safe) polishing tool which has received a positive response from lots of people.
