A motoring magazine in the UK has got a story on the new A4 - it's reported that the new A4 is due in UK showrooms in the Summer of 2001, indicating a debut at either the Paris Show in 2000 or Geneva in 2001.
It's also reported that the coupe version will follow a year afterwards.<ul><li><a href="http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/Harvy/perl/mainbuild.cgi?URL=news/33404.html">http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/Harvy/perl/mainbuild.cgi?URL=news/33404.html</a</li></ul>

<I> "Bigger, roomier and more luxurious than the car it replaces, the new A4 takes many styling touches from the A6, including high sides and a swooping roofline." </I>
Bigger? Roomier? More luxurious? This is what BMW did to the 328 and everyone is bitching and moaning. Isn't that what the A6 is for? I say keep the A4's focus as a true enthusiast driver's car, small, sporty and classy.
Plus, Audi shouldn't model the A4 after the A6, like a mini-A6 wanna-be.I feel that the new A4 should follow its own heritage and take off the current A4 styling cues. Like the A4 rear end, which is perfect the way it is. Notice how the new 3 series rear end looks a lot like the A4's, along with many other new small sedans on the road.

And would then go on sale the following year in Europe. U.S. would get the all new model as a '03 model in the fall of '02. By then my lease should almost be up with the A4 I'm buying and then I can get a new car.
Please remember that the photo they show is a computer illustration and not one that was released from Audi. Until I see offical images from Audi AG, I'm going to keep an open mind about what the next-generation A4 will look like.

We 2.8 owners could use a little more power. I wish Audi/VW would only offer this new engine in the A4 and keep the Passat at 190HP. They have been criticized for this and I agree. For example Acura offers a 225HP V6 in the TL and keeps the 200HP version for the Accord.
As far as the design I have been smitten by the current A4 since I first saw one in 1996 and I hope Audi doesn't try to change it too much.

I hope the Audi doesn't get too many A6 styling hints than the A4. A4 should keep its unique personality: driving enthuisasts's sports sedan with unique styling and perfect ergonomics.
The current BMW E46 should has too much 5-Series styling cues and personality that makes the E36 more appealing and better driving experience.
Coupe and convertible A4 look really cool. Will the Multitronic available by the time it launch?
