....I'd only try this as a last resort.

My sister had a '97 mini-van that she was going to trade in last week. Her method of washing the car is to leave it out in the rain (lots of washing this year)and to drive it through a car wash at least once in its lifetime.

Needless to say, the car was filthy and no amount of washing could get 7 years of crud off the front of the car. Several trips through Florida during "love bug" season had taken its toll.

Since I had the Kaboom out for doing the wheels I decided to try that on the grille - it worked, so I tried the bumper, then the fenders and the hood.

It was absolutely amazing. A good followup wash and then using all that left over polishing compound and cheap-o wax (that all of us have bought over the years) and the car was looking quite good - nice deep shine and probably added $500 to the value.

I'm not sure what the long term effects are, but if you see a red minivan with a CarMax sticker on the back with peeling paint on the hood then we'll know.....

Bottom line - this was the quickest and easiest way to get years of bugs and grime off a car. I don't know what it will do to the paint in the long run......

10 years old...the thing doesn't get washed, lives outdoors, paint is oxidized beyond belief, and I really don't want to spend any time on it...I barely have the time to deal with my garage queen right now. I was thinking exactly what you were...if I could just clean it up a little.... Kaboom it is!
