car is an 83 UrQ
when i got the car the diff lock knob would not pull out, after i took the console apart i saw the switch had fallen out of the holder, which meant that the knob wouldn't pull out because it was already out. now it pulls out but the indicator lights dont come on, and there is no power going to the lights when the knob is out so its not the bulbs.
is there any way to know if the diffs are locked without the lights on? is the handling so different that i would easily feel it?

With just the center locked it will be hard to turn sharply - and you will feel it bind. With rear locked too - just gets worse. Heck good luck getting it to turn sharply on dry pavement with both locked...

i crawled under and had some one pull the knob and nothing is goin on down there. i was goin over the connections and it looks good. the locks move back and forth kinda rubber band like. the only thing i noticed is that i can blow air through the check valve both ways. i'm pretty sure this should not be the case.
just saskin if there are any common probs with the locking system or ideas someone might have

Also you can get under there and manly open the servos and see if the light will come on. My rear one will lock fine but my vaccum is just not quite enough to open the center one, but it will open manually. How often does anyone use the lock,I thought for maybe pulling out of a bad situation but not for highway speeds?

yeah i got under and was moving it back and forth but it was rubbery feeling like the vacume was keeping it from locking in.
its pretty filthy under there, i gotta get to the car wash and spray it out, so i can be sure of whats goin on

in the mountains when it was really windy - added stability - sounds goofy but it felt good. Ohh and on the track. I use the center in the rain, snow, ice, etc. I rarely lock the rear - very slick conditions where i'm going straight (city driving when icy), at Steamboat ice driving...that's about it.
