Anyway, I had a chat with Buffum and he signed the visor on my car at SnoDrift yesterday. I told him that he and the quattro are what got me interested in rally in 1982 - I took this photo back then at the POR rally.
I talked to Buffum about the rally quattros and the first thing he mentioned was 'the sound', with a grin on his face. In fact, I had several people checking out the car over the weekend and everybody wanted to hear it run. And then you'd hear them explain to their friends that this was a "five cylinder". Lots of people knew what the car was, but then again you've got to be a pretty hardcore rally fan to stand out there all day in those single-digit temps.
Buffum was in deep conversation with Pastrana, Block, Gelsomino and Foust, all individually, at the first Service. Offering advice I'm sure on the tricky conditions out there. Pastrana told me he loved the conditions (hard ice with a light snow cover) - he won comfortably. Block seemed very hesitant in an interview he was giving to a video crew - he then crashed out on a night stage.
Also, met up with 'rally43' briefly since he was busy with medsweep. Thanks again for the vintage Audi stickers!!!

Enjoyed the brief meeting.. would have liked to chat about the car more, but we had to get out to the stages ASAP.... The stages were VERY VERY Slick and we only climbed the snow banks twice... Every stage seemed to mostly off camber corners, made for better use of the banks lol....

The pace was astounding considering they don't run studs.
BTW: I got the car cleaned up / de-salted today and already found a spot for the stickers :)
Looks good... Dave R. from MQT and I were talking briefly about holding a mini meet this summer, interested ?

He was actually talking to Buffum right before he walked over to the car. I didn't recognize him. Then when we were talking about the POR, he said well that was Shepard I was talking to over there! I couldn't find him after that.

I ended up going as well, but never got a chance to say hi. I did see your car though and it looked great. I love the rims.

I saw your car at the HS as I was leaving. VERY nicely done. :)
I have been looking at your winter pics, they look amazing. Are thoes 16x6 wheels?, I think it is the best winter set up, it looks perfect. Do you have porsche beakes up front?
a fan of your car

with 185/65. The performance in snow is so good with these narrow tires, I'm tempted to narrow the wheels to 5 and go with an even skinnier tire next year. Stock brakes for now.
