Hi, I wanted to introduce me and my 83'Ur Quattro. Its been in my family al of its life. It was given to me with some body damage. Everything else is working well. I really want to get the work done. I have gotten more then a couple of quotes that are astronomical around the denver area. Who would you take it to if you were in my position. Dont mind driving wherever. I want to bring it back to life, I love this machine.
Thats what I say, but these guys dont seem to think so.
Im thinking of taking it to 2bennett. I really want someone who knows what they are doing.

I would consider SVE in Broomfield. They are very good and do lots of Audis. That does look like some fairly expensive damage. My guess is $6-$9k for body work and paint. It looks like you have the damage, plus some rust and paint that needs to be taken down to bare metal. That work won't be cheap from any good shop. Few shops like to do "restoration" work, as they can make more money with less headaches on insurance work. I found that out with my car.
If you need mechanical work, there are a few places around that know the cars as well. What are you looking to have done?

Werners Mastertech, did all of the mechanical, and apart from the trany mounts being shot(I get tons of vibration once the turbo starts going.feals horrible), its in very good running order. I need the body done right the first time, so I can start addressing the more fun stuff. I havent found a qoute under 8k. and starting to think I wont. So I guess I need someone who know the Ur Body and will do a good job restoring my baby.

When I shopped around for paint for my rust free, stripped to bare metal shell, I got quotes for $5k-$15k. Many good shops wouldn't even touch it, those that would said it would take 2-3months as it would be filler work in between other jobs. VERY frustrating.
You might also try Hatch's just west of Santa Fe on Evans. They did a black ur quattro last summer and it turned out very well. If I were you, I would hunt down a trunk lid, spoiler and taillight from on Coupe GT and maybe an ur quattro quarter panel on your own. It looks like the valance could be repaired, but the damage to the bumper and mount looks a bit scary. You may be able to find some replacements from someone who has swapped the US bumpers for Euros. Chances are that a body shop will not be able to find those parts for you.
As for the vibration, generally, the right side motor mount fails. The transmission mounts are easy, but the right motor mount is kind of a PITA. Chances are, if the mounts and bushings in the car are all original, they will probably all need replacement.
BTW, we are also having a get together/planning meeting for the big quattro celebration this summer at Carino's on the southwest corner of Alameda and Wadsworth at 5:30pm on Thursday the 17th.

for some great advice, I need to go back and look at who has quoted me. The qoutes were done while it was at Werners M. Like you said most of them didnt even want to touch the car. One of the reasons I want to take it to 2bennet is exaclty that, I can upgrade to euro style bumpers, and Im sure they have a back lid, rear quarter around as well as all of the other bits.
I think it would bring the price down.
I really like the look of the euro bumpers.

Im sure intrested, You are very kind. Im very glad I found the forum. Im in Baja right now. I'll be driving back up in July, which is when I have some time to spend on it. Would be glad to stop by and pick them up then. You must have a ton of stuff around.
Now I only need a quarter panel, some bumpers and Im in buisness.
As soon as the body is in order, Brakes are my next thing on the list, all though it seems so far away still. Guess it is.
thank you.

Bushings and Mounts.
How hard are they to do ones self?
I'm for sure doing the trans. mount, but would like to do all if possible.
work. Randy and Todd are great, reasonable and willing to do whatever they need to do to get it right. I use them for all of my audis.

I was referring to urqs in general. This one, the one in Baltimore, etc.

The rest of the suspension bushings probably aren't something the average "do it yourselfer" would want to tackle as you need access to a press.

messed up.
someone apparently in the field next to them was doing doughnuts and sprayed rocks and mud and whatever else that messed up the paint all over the car. At first my wife went up there to get it, and the hood was completely messed up.
Then several hours later they call and said it all mysteriously went away. they bring the car to me and it doesnt look like it did when my wife saw it, but there are a couple spots on the hood - one big deep chip, and a couple areas where the paint is kinda cracking...they tell me 'oh, that was there...looks like someone egged your car or something'...i just had taken pics of the car a couple weeks ago to put it up for sale...none of that crap was there and where the paint is cracking or whatever is in the shape of one of the spots that were on it.
I am claiming it through my insurance and getting it taken care of...but to me, that is shady of them. and they should have just taken care of it...I was going to take my 996 up there to get the bumpers resprayed...i am rethinking it now cause i dont know that i can be convinced they can keep my car safe.
Sucks, cause the reason i drive 30 min out of my way to take my car down there is they are supposed to be the best.

when necessary. for custom stuff i also found a guy in longmont - quiroz auto that does lowrider show cars, pinstriping, etc. they can definitely do some good paintwork...award winning even.
