First, I'll let you know I'm new to this forum and my research has just begun. It's been a dream of mine to build/have on of these. I realize there are different versions in Europe. From whay I've seen the standard 10vt (US spec) runs at 225 hp. Are there any more powerful versions here? Has anyone swapped a stage III+ 1.8T engine in an UrQ? Are there any other sites that have more detailed info on this? Thank you for any info.

Chipped MC swap would get you closer to that 225 though.

You can swap in a 20vt, AAN is 227hp.

http://www.audiworld.com/model/ur-quattro/84-urq.shtml</a

Here's an idea I have toyed with. Get yourself an Audi Coupe quattro, add a 1.8T or even an 2.0 FSI if you can get one, add an A2 body kit and put a great competition set up for suspension and chassis. I wouldn't go that route with my UrQ because to me there are too few of them around now in original-ish condition. But I think a modern rally replica from a Coupe would be pretty cool. After all, even the works rally cars were pretty well morphed from the ones Audi sold for the street, so what's the difference in starting with a Coupe if you have fiberglass, kevlar, or carbon fiber all over it anyway. Personally, I just don't think that going crazy on a UrQ is worth it since a stock STI would make you wonder why you ever bothered. Like I said, it is only my opinion, but I really think the few left should be preserved. Not to say no mods at all, but there is a reasonable limit. Or another idea that I have never seen, get an early 4000 2 door and morph it with a 4000 quattro with a Sport quattro body kit with a built 1.8t. I think that would be origional, kinda affordable if you can do the work yourself, and sure would put a smile on a lot of Audi fans. Let me close by saying though, I am guilty of daydreaming of chopping up my wife's A4 quattro and giving my UrQ the royal makeover, but it's only a daydream.

damn near everything to the car, and spending 20+k (at least (im in well over 30k)) in addition to the cost of the car depending on what you want to do.

mine will be done within days. i cant wait.

are you talking about the audi 90 body (coupe quattro)? i do prefer the older body like the coupe gt, but did they ever make a gt quattro, or is that considered the UrQ? sorry for the newbie questions.

The weight is about the same as well. Buying a really nice ur quattro will cost about as much as a base Impreza as well ($16k). How technology has advanced.

If your goal is a 300+hp AWD sportscar, buying a new STI or EVO (or R32 with a turbo kit) would be cheaper and easier than building one from a 25 year old Audi quattro. And then you get a warranty and readily available parts.

Soooo, why is it that I own this old quattro anyway?...

I'm not quite sure what stockornot is getting at. In Europe early Coupe quattros are about as rare as ur quattros, and there are probably less than a handful of grey market cars here in North America.

Building a quattro from parts of other cars is not a very feasible project either unless you have very deep pockets and/or LOTS of free time.

Your right. But I don't think taking a 4000 quattro and mating that to the coupe GT body would be too ambitious. I've seen both for sale for peanuts. Kinda a hot rodder attitude I suppose. People put V-8s in puny cars, make rear wheel drivers from front, rear engined from front. I really think a clone is posssible. However, I am not going to try it any time soon.

Exactly. Not, logical, practical or even impressive to the average joe anymore, yet I'd sooner sacrifice a limb...or at least a digit.

post a full set of pics and all the final build details.

I saw it today, interior is almost back together, but ends up some little stuff is missing from the years in pieces and changing locations a few times...so more fabrication and such...ugh.

Should be running by Friday, but it'll still be another week or two probably before im actually cruising around in it.

you own the old quattro because there's nothing else like it around. kinda like the the old saab 900. yes i agree i could go with an STI or an EVO, but i'm quite partial to the older german cars. i learned how to drive in an '80 rabbit diesel, ya know? besides, i'm looking for a project that i can take my time with and make it my own.
