I may have the opportunity to trade my CQ for an UrQuattro. As of now, the CQ is stock, damaged front end, and salvage title, but I have everything I need short of a Megasquirt ECU to make it a 20vt beast (including 3B, Vogtland springs, bilstien sport shocks, 17" rims, Allroad tranny and rear diff mounts, poly control arm bushings, etc, none of which has been installed on the CQ at this time). I may have the opportunity to trade the stock CQ, as is, for a UrQuattro. I don't know much about the UrQ other than that it is white. I obviously wouldn't make the descision without seeing/driving it first. I'm looking for opinions from you guys about what you'd rather have. Assuming the UrQuattro is in decent and driveable shape with a clear title and no body damage/rust.
So post your opinions and reasons here;
UrQuattro (historic bad-ass old school Audi that started it all)
vs.
Coupe Quattro with tons of potential
Neither will be my daily driver, I have the 100csq Avant for that.

An Ur Quattro will always be more rough riding, louder, and un-aerodynamic. The CQ will be more civilized, but have more electronic issues (climate control anyone?). The CQ has a stiffer body shell. The Urq is easier to work on.
If you want a cool, collectible toy, I'd give an edge to the Urq. For driving pleasure, once the CQ is done, I would give the edge to it based on the above items.
In terms of parts availability, the CQ is only slightly better than the Urq for now. The rarity issue is really about a wash, although the Urq has more history and race breeding. You will have to weigh those items on your own.
For me, since I have other options for track vehicles, I chose an Urq for my Sunday driver.

Think hard about what you like and what you really want the car to do.
I'm a child of the 80's, so the angular stylings and rally linkage mean a lot to me. I use the car for weekend fun and the occasional track day (knowing full well that I'll be outclassed by newer stuff).
The CQ styling is much more modern. In perfect condition it can look quite a bit younger than it is, especially with a B4 hood, H1/H4 Euro lights, and bigger wheels. The interior is also much better. The body is galvanized, so it'll resist the elements better.
So ask yourself what you want. The urq is a blast, has a rich history, and really excites the few who know what it is. The CQ has its own following, and can be "pimped" to turn the heads of even those who aren't in the know.

Unless you get an '84 or '85, the ur quattro will definitely have more electrical issues than the CQ. (Personally, I would love that electronic climate control system - it is very reliable.)
In terms of reliability, the CQ will beat the ur quattro it hands down. The Hitachi engine management isn't great, but he would be changing that anyway. I would call them a wash in terms of ease of service. Parts will also be easier to find for the CQ; at least for awhile.
There is also the subject of rust. CQs are totally galvanized. The later ur quattros have galvanized sheetmetal on some panels, but not all like the CQs.
The big reasons people like the ur quattro is the early eighties rally car styling, and more connected feeling ride. You can get the latter on a CQ with suspension work, but other than getting S2 or RS2 front ends, you are stuck with the roundy CQ styling.
So, although it makes absolutely no reasonable sense to do so, get the ur quattro.

Where are you located? I'm in Ohio and in need of a bunch of parts.

And realize, unless you dump a ton of money into it, it won't be as good a daily driver as the 20v Coupe.

look of the Ur-Q, galvanized and no electrical issues like the Ur, quicker around a track, highly modifiable, and STILL manages to turn heads everywhere it goes.
Oh, and it won't break the bank....

If your looking for a daily driver - rock the CQ. if you want pure automotive pleasure and a slice of automotive history - by all means go with the UR
If you do plan on putting the 20vt in the UR you'll enjoy it so much it WILL become your daily driver.
If I recall you were one of the first to put a 20VT in a B3. Nice work.

If it means driving a head turner go URQ.
If it means a better handling more powerful car go CQ 20VT.
