Does anyone have experience with having a steering wheel recovered? The leather on my 20v wheel is icky and crumbling. Can the leather be replaced well?

View Full Version : Steering Wheel Restoration Rich L. 10-21-2005, 04:06 PM Does anyone have experience with having a steering wheel recovered? The leather on my 20v wheel is icky and crumbling. Can the leather be replaced well? urq20vt 10-21-2005, 05:30 PM I checked with a few places few years ago to redo my original wheel. Upholsterers generally don't want to touch them, and can't match the construction, especially if they have glue joints, like the Personal (Nardi) 20V ur q wheel. The one place that specialized in them (I wish I could remember the name of the place - I think it was in CA) quoted me $450. Yikes. Seeing that you can get excellent wheel for $250 or less, I would say that it isn't worth it. YMMV. Rich L. 10-24-2005, 12:55 PM That's pretty high so replacement might be a better way to go than repair. But the "good" condition wheel that I got used a couple ago, went downhill fast. I'd rather pay a bit more for a quality recovering job than get another wheel that's going to crumble in a couple of years. urq20vt 10-24-2005, 02:40 PM I have seen a few crappy recovering jobs, but never a good one. My guess is that people find the same thing that I did, in that you might as well just replace it. |
