Well, one main question. I currently have a 2000 S4 and really enjoy it, but have always wanted a Ur-Quattro and there is that nice one for sale on Ebay. The question I have is that I travel a lot of road miles for work and love the quiet and comfort of the S4 almost as much as it's performance. I know this is an 80's car, but how is it on long trips? (8 hours or less)

Thanks in advance. Great cars you guys have.

So true on carrying extra stuff in the urq...

When I changed back to 'stock' supension, looked pretty good. But after a while, the back end looked like it was sagging a bit. I was a bit worried... Until I realized what I was carrying in the trunk!

Some of the contents:
Small floor jack, one jack stand, full toolbox, jumper cables, fire extinguisher, torque wrench, mini air pump, tow strap, exra oil, a few belts, jumper battery pack, 12 flourescent light, piece of carpet (to lie on), some premix antifreeze, some rubber fuel line (and clamps), some small vacuum line and probably a few other things that I can't remember, or don't know about.

Then on long trips, I jam in a full sized spare, too...

So no wonder the back end sags a bit!

Good thing is, I never seem to need any of this stuff, but end up using it to help out others.

They may not know what it is - or have someone qualified to fix the most common problems. Disclaimer - I may bid on that car myself - but it would be my 7th car - and I work just 6 miles from home (and I can take a bus to work).

I guess I should be fortunate to have a good relationship with the head Audi tech here in town. Hes been an Audi tech for 30 years and LOVES the old cars! He loves working on them, you should see when he works on a newer one :P *grumble grumble*. I bet he would **** a brick if 3-4 Urq's showed up for oil changes ;). Hes definately a purist though.

I, personally, don't usually carry any tools with me. Also, I find the car very comfortable on these trips. They seem to be effortless and fairly quiet at 80mph and higher.

We are due for a get together one of these weekends. Just show up and I'm sure that you could get a ride, not to mention learn a lot.

Nononono!

YOURs is the nice one!

It's MINE that's the one with "26" previous owners (I'm joking, but you get the point!) that all took a go at messing things up!

Geeze.. Getting some confusion here!

I suppose I should have said "26 owners"...

As in a "pile of undocumented owners that I don't know about". A figure of speech, as it were.

There weren't really 26 previous owners. Maybe 4 or 5 previous owners, and a lot of time of the urq being shuttled (unrunning) from one storage location to another. Sort of like the 'unwanted child'.

Don't know how it got a MC motor in it, nor how all the 'mystery wiring' happened. But there was enought "Automotive Buggery" done to my URQ by previous owners to make it *seem* like it had 26 previous owners!

Bottom line is, now *I* own it, it's getting slowly sorted, I can still drive it around, and it's loads of fun!

We all on the same station now, right? :-)

The car is impressive. Thats the best word to describe it. The ride and quality of the car is impressive. Obvious right away as you pass 80, then 90 miles per hour and the smoothness and solidity of the car is right there with any new Audi. Handling even in stock form is superb.
