I recently purchased Bose amp from a salvaged A4 (very cheaply, I might add). I have the plug and harness for the amp but I'm having trouble figuring out the speaker wires. I know what wires get hooked up to the head unit, but the speakers are a problem. There are 8 grey and 4 green, some have stripes and some don't (+ or -). Could someone please check their '96/'97/'98 Bose system and tell me which wires go to which speakers? The dealer was as helpful as a pile of mud. Much appreciation!

The bose amp runs at a different impedence than most speakers, therefore u need to replace the whole system, i am surprised the head unit works with it, it may "wire up" properly but i will be surprised if u have success with the non bose radio...

Cheers and Good Luck

It always has been. 1 wire, grounded in the "options" plug on the back of the unit makes the LED say "Bose". At the same time, it loweres the output of the pre-amp outs and removes the amplified output of the head unit for the front speakers. This way, all power is supplied by the amp. By the way, I have all the Bose speakers. And, you would be surprized how some of them are the same part number as the non-bose speakers. Don't be fooled, by your dealer, that the Bose is a completely different system. It's not. That would be too expensive for Audi and Bose, think about it.

having had a bose system in a nissan (and god did/do i hate bose systems in cars) and being a car audiophile, the speakers are different impedences and will not function without the correct bose amplifier. i am not sure of wether or not the bose amp in the audi is eq'd or if the eq processor is in the head unit (which may LOOK the same) if its in the head unit the system may play but will again image and sound incorrect.

"No highs... no lows....must be bose"

Much like their home stuff they are masters of midrange and midbass, but little else.
Good luck with your "swap".
