I am especially thinking about upgrading my front door speakers and maybe tweeters. I do not want to loose the phone integration feature so I can't go aftermarket.
So does Bose spkrs sound better? Can handle more W? How about the rear deck, are the Bose also coaxials?
As time and $ permits I plan to add an amp and sub, then replace the amp of the rear deck spkrs, but this is about as far as I will go on audio mods.
TIA, friends.

How much are the Bose speakers? If you find a second hand source, you might do alright on the price, but you'd have to trust that they were in good shape...
Take the money you'd spend on them and go to the aftermarket.
Stock Head Unit ----> aftermarket amp -----> aftermarket speakers.
Still get your phone integration, but with better sound.
$100 in the aftermarket will get you better separates up front than stock -- 4" (or $125 would get you 5.25" and MBquart adapters).
$75 in the aftermarket would get you decent coaxes for the rear (don't get me started on rear fill.)
You can get a GREAT 50w x 4ch amp for under $300, and if you go lower power, you can do even better on the price. Install kit for $30, do the install yourself.
Max cash = $500 not including your subwoofer. Do it in pieces & you save more.
Take my advice (listen to it first) = Just replace your front speakers, get a 4 ch amp, use 2 channels for front speakers, bridge rear two channels for your sub. Dismiss your rear speakers all together (or leave them be, put an inline filter on them to remove highs and have some rear fill). Money = at most $425 + a sub speaker, less is possible.
If you want to hear a car with just front stage (I have front speakers and a Stealthbox...no rear speakers), to see what it sounds like, let me know. You're in Houston, right....?

but u cant upgrade to the Bose speakers. Those speakers are specifically designed to work with the amp and headunit sold with the bose package. The speakers run at 6 or 12 ohms i cant remember where standard stereo speakers run at 4 ohms. You will get incorrect power to the speakers and if i remember the line-out on the bose is different entirely thereby causing you to get little if any signal to the bose speakers at all.
If you wish to upgrade you need to get an aftermarket setup... coaxials or seperates for the front and a midbass driver for the rear....
Cheers

I show my Tegra, well did, im retired. Trying to sell it as is to get my A4. I will do some stuff in the A4, nothing like what i have done in my Acura, but i like good sound, and u can do that more with speaker placement than brand of speakers... so i like a bargain too.
This is an off topic discussion i suppose...
Email me if you are near north west or west side of houston would love to see ur A4, might pop my tegra's hatch and make u say "what the hell possessed u to do that"
hahaha.

Audi has been "tinkering" with the A4 stereo since '96. There are several similarities between the years, depending on what speakers you want and what year car you have. My advice to you is get the Audi parts list for the stereo system for the year of your car and compare it to the other years, you will be surprized at the similarity, I was. DO NOT waste your money on the Bose speakers from the dealer, after market are cheaper and better. It depends on your interests. As far as an after market amp goes, keep these in mind: a) if you dis-able your rear deck speakers, where do the highs come from... the front? Think about how that would sound in the back. b) if you hook up the rear channel of a four channel amp to subs and highs, how would you regulate each one? Adjusting the filter on the amp would change both, losing highs or lows depending on the filter selction. c)in line filters are not as effective and you can lose 20% of the output power, but they do work. d) if you spend $300 on an amp, it will be pretty good quality, but to do the system efectively, you should have a 5 or 6 channel amp. 2 for the front highs, 2 for the rear highs, and 2 (or 1 bridged) for the subs. The rear highs could be the rear doors or rear deck and the subs could be "free air" mounted on the deck. A 5 or 6 channel amp runs about $450. Any questions, let me know!
