My dealer (prestige in Wallingford, CT) says the parts have not been delivered from Audi, and will be a few weeks. Is this the real story, or has anyone out there had the service done? Thanks.

I'm getting done today actually, my car is at the dealer right now. My technician did mention something about different parts for 1.8 and 2.8. Something along the lines of "oh good, we have the 1.8s right now." BTW this was a walk-in, no apointment and I got a loaner A6.

I also bought my car in Wallingford. Up until this summer I've had nothing but good to say about the service. That is until my CD changer died after 7 months, and a headlight washer cover (the plastic piece on the bumper) flew off the car at 70 mph. I was told by the service department that the CD changer was only warranteed for 6 months, so they wouldn't replace it for free, and it took them almost 6 months to get the washer cover replacement part. Actually, it took them 4 months to get it and paint it the wrong color, then another 2 months to repaint it the right color. Needless to say, I'm starting to lose faith...

How has your service been, overall?

They did a fine job, no complaints.

I bought the car there, but since I live closer to COntinental, I went here a few times for a faultly climate control fan. They treated me very poorly, plus scratched the wood trim around the climate control, dicked me on a loaner and then left me with a couple of scratches across the trunk lid from a careless wash/dry job. This, even after I had them write on the service order "DO NOT WASH THIS CAR".

Thanks for the heads up on prestige, I'll have to see what happens.

maybe its just for dealers in non-critical (doesn't get that cold down here) areas.

Chip friendly? Not chip friendly?
I get my `00 A4 from Rod East in Dec/Jan time and will have my service done a t DmC or Momentum...
was curious if either had a chip policy....
curious.

thanks

at a gathering (free BBQ!) McGill had.

Although he didn't come right out and say it, he seemed to imply that they were not chip friendly...however he didn't say that they were actively scanning with the VAG1552 tool and voiding warranties, etc.

I'd say it's a don't ask, don't tell deal.

* someone, who hangs out here on ORG, did have the screws on their ECU painted(!) by the service dept. a while back to keep an eye on "tampering", I suppose. *

Some have advised this: buy a chip with an extra ECU & swap before service.

www.dadsauto.com

will sell you a used ECU for around $400 (maybe cheaper now, try to bargain). They just need your ECU code to match & you chip either your old or new one.

His ECU went out (it had been socketed) and had to be towed. They came back and told him that it would be $1,600 to replace his ECU since they saw it had been opened. Another reason to get the spare ECU.

SO I would say that Don McGill IS NOT a chip friendly dealer.
