I have become very interested in this car over the past few months. Being 17 and looking for the opportunity of getting my first car, a Ur-Quattro is immediately my first choice.

Looking through the classifieds/Bargain finders I can't seem to find any Quattros at all for sale in my region (Calgary, Canada). I was wondering how much $ I would be looking at if I did happen to find one in decent (not perfect) shape? I know that all used cars can have problems, so are the replacement parts, or repair costs extremely high for this type of car?
Are there certain parts/aspects of the car that tend to cause the most problems?

Also, are there many differences between the years of the Ur-Quattro? For example, is there a considerable difference between an 83 and 84? Is there a few model years that would be better than others?

I am learning more about cars now as I grow increasingly obsessed with them, but I still have much to learn.

Thanks for the help in advance.

I think that getting a urq for a "first" car would be a bit daunting. At 17, you would have to be related to royalty to not only afford the car, but the cost to maintain such a money pit these things can be.
A real nice q can be had for 16-20,000.oo $U.S.
The best years to get are 84'&85' as you won't have to deal with the crazy wiring problems these cars can experiance.
I hate to discurrage anyone, but I'd start out with a VW Corrado, or Scirocco. Which at such a young age, could be maintained, without killing your savings account.
q's can be bought for 4-5,000.00 $U.S., but would need alot of work most likely up front.
But if you are determined, spend as much time as you can about these cars, and there are some great websites, forums that have alot of precious info, and plenty of helfull owners whom have owned these car for many years.
Good Luck!!!

Thanks for the info! I had some idea that the car would be expensive, and I see that its probably not the best choice as my first car. Starting next year I'll be going into Mechanical Engineering with quite a few scholarships and my expenses all paid, so I should be able to work my way up to getting one after I have finished University, and have a stable job.

Thanks again. I will have a UrQ someday, hopefully :)

Consider a later model coupe GT.
They're pretty reliable and a good introduction to the type of problems you might face with a UrQ.

I've seen good 87-89 Coupe GTs for 2-3K.

Right on!
They're cool looking, easy to work on, and are fun to drive.
I have always wanted one, in white!
