I'm heading from CT to Colorado next week with my "new" '83 urquattro, and am in need of some traveling advice. I will be having the car fully checked out by Greg Hayman at Auto Firme in NY before the purchase, but all signs are it's a go. The question is, what should I bring with me for the trip? Iowa and Kansas are lonely states with a broken Audi, so I'd like to be prepared. My new baby has 112K on it, no rust (he claims) and plenty of maintenance w/reciepts. I'll have a few days prior to the trip to sort things out as well. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Also, how do you post pictures on the BB?

Good luck on the drive back. Chances are that all will go well. You might want to post to the urq list on Audifans with your route. My guess is that you will find generous ur q owners all across your route who will gladly help you out if anything goes wrong. Having phone numbers and a cell phone would be helpful. You will find that mechanics don't know these cars, especially in Corn King, IA, so having access to other ur q owners would be a great help.

The big things I would look for that could make your trip "interesting", are:
Suspension bushings and ball joints (a squirrelly suspension is no fun on a long trip)
Charging system
Lights
Vacuum lines
Exhaust and mounts (Dropping a muffler in Nebraska isn't fun)
Wipers

Other than the usual stuff like a basic metric tool kit, duct tape, vacuum line, and a DVM, its up to you.

HTH!

Thanks for the advice....I'm sure I'll be looking to this forum for many small projects that are sure to follow with this new addition.....I can't wait!

Hey! I just sent you an email from Audifans! I live in CT and would like to hook up when you get here. As for tools, wait til Greg checks it out. He did a lot of work on my car for the PO, and he knows a lot! I would suggest, however, bringing a duty cycle meter, a 3mm allen T-handle, a philips head, a med. flat blade, and a roll of duct tape.
I travel to MD often in my 85, and usually don't bring any tools. I feel like its a jinx.
