Hi, Im new to this fourum but share your love of the quattro. The sound of the turbo wakes me in my dreams and transports me to my childhood days when the quattros were charging through the forests above my parents house. To cut a long story short a good friend has a 20v ur quattro whith an intermitent problem. He was quater mile ing it last year and after some very fast times there has been a vibration and what he explains as like cogs slipping. Last week after traveling aprox 100 miles the transmission stopped transmitting power to the wheels and then worked again after beeing left over night. If anyone has any advice or possible source of enquiry/ manual it would be much appreiated.

it probably doesn't need to be driven any more, i am assuming it's a torsen unit. drain the oil for starters and see what that looks like, any metal?
he probably broke something, this is why the rs2's had beefed up gearboxs, the torsen would shockload the transmission and could do damage like shattering a gear, he could have broken a shaft, anything is possible, weird how it sitting sorta fixed it, but i wouldn't drive it anymore until it is looked at.
it could be a damaged CV joint that somehow is still functioning after being pushed or coasted to the side of the road.
Check the driveshaft cv's and the inner and out cv joints.
HTH!

yup, when you break a CV joint with a Tor$en, the power isn't transmitted to the wheels anymore!!
