I have a semi hot rod urquattro ( 2300cc, cam, ported head, 6 angle valve job, trick turbo, CC heads, balancedcrank, rods, pistons and flywheel, free flow exhaust system, k&n filter, lighten flywheel, higher compression, high po computer and 15lb waste gate spring, I guess about 250 hp).

I have been having fun showing the modern audi's that the old ones have some umph.

Today I was crusing south on Interstate 5 when a new TT passed. I dropped a gear dropped the pedel and blew past him in a 60-100 mph acceleration that startled even me. He caught up after I slowed to a more legal speed and gave me a big thumbs up. I laughed all the way home.

The 60 to 90 roll-on is really very good in the old urquattro.

Anyone else out their have any similiar experiences.

I have a few more trick planned and then it's S4 hunting season.

The next engine i was planning to build for my Urquattro, I want to get everything balanced. Is it worth it? I weighed the pistons and rods and the weight difference between them was not to great. Will balancing get rid of the raspiness at high rpm?

I like a very smooth running engine.

By CC'ing the heads all five combustion chambers have the same volume. It cost $75 at my machine shop. It makes for a very smooth running engine.

At the same time I did a six angle valve job. It flows much better because the air flows much better thru the port.

I also did mild porting work to the head. I read that porting on a turbo car improves low end torque. It seems to have worked the car has much more low end torque.

I balanced the rods, pistons, crank & flywheel seperately and then assembled the unit and rebalanced everything together. It cost $320.00. I have really noticed an improvement in engine ability to rev up. I can peg the tack instantly.

I learned to turn wrenches on air cooled VW's way back in 1978. I learned that a properly assembled engine could produce much more horsepower. I spent alot of hours building up a 1760 dual port motor. The engine idled better, ran cooler, reved faster and was all around a much better engine. The old phrase balanced and blueprinted is really important. The stock audi engines are very good but a careful assembly can make them better.
