I plan to change the oil tomorrow since I notice some lifter tick. I know this is sometimes inevitable but I wanted to see what everyone uses brand and type.

Thanks
Brandon

Castrol GTX 20w50 or 10w30, non synthetic (season pending).

Non synthetic gets my vote, just MHO.

Red line watter wetter with a lean 25/75% mix of antifreeze to water.
ATE "super blue" brake fluid.
If I could afford it, I'd put Redline in the engine!
And it's true, synthetic will leak any chance it gets! You need new gaskets and seals to keep it in.

Tried 0w-40 Mobile 1 in the CGT...not a pretty sight.

Buddy & I discuss this at least once a season... Seems cheap insurance, but ive read race dudes only change 2-3x a season if that..!?

Thoughts..?

Come to Mid Oh over the 4th, gonna be at least 2 CGTS....

In March, April and May on the same oil.
I can usualy get in 3-5 events/days, if at the end of May I do an event and if it's gonna be hot (90-100°), I'll change the oil for that event.
Then I'll run that oil on the street till summer (I only drive about 100mi. per week), in the fall around Oct when it gets "cold" (in the 60's) I'll change the oil again, then the following spring before the 1st. track day of the year I'll change it again.
So I change the oil 3-4 times a year but I only put about 5-7,000 miles on the car per year....

After I break in this motor I will be using Mobil1. In the summer I tend to use 20w50 and in the colder weather I drop to 10w30.

For break in I am using GM oil additive (because the API certified formula changed - see previous oil discussion) with el cheapo dino oil and changing regularly and early. Before 5000kms are done she'll have at least 4 oil changes.

One after 15 minutes of run time, one after the Carlisle road trip (about 2000kms - would have preferred to do this at 1000kms) , one at 3500 and the last one at 5000.

I use ATF as it's cheaper, but rislone is a very good additive as well. They both have a lot of detergents that do a great job of cleaning. We've used Rislone routinely at two of the shops that I've worked at.

BTW, I don't care about brand, just as long as It's up to the mark. I've never seen an engine blown because if the "wrong brand" of oil. I don't know that there is adequate doccumentation of significantly less wear under normal driving conditions between brands/synthetic, etc. However, I've worked on quite a # of cars that have had blown engines due to no oil in them. Any brand, even well used oil would have been great at that time! ;-)

Second for Castrol 20W50.
It's hard to find oil change places that carry 20W50, so I've done it myself since I got the car.

BTW: Castrol 10W40 can't handle redline rallying in the Florida heat. It had complete viscosity breakdown after 8 stages in 100* F heat...and I got heat cramps, so I guess I had viscosity breakdown too.

Its what the manual calls for. Can't really trust 20W50 with the winters here. Car runs fine, the only clanking I get is that stupid vacuum pump rod.

The Jetta on the other hand only gets VW 502.00 approved 5W40 full synth.... its what the manual calls for. I have Pentosin Pentosynth 5W40 in there now.

Full synth 5-40 in the TD and 5-30 in the CQ.
No burning or leaks- both engines are new tight though.
