Hello,

I just recently purchased another 4000 Quattro, it's a red '86 CS model. Recently, the car seems to start really hard, like I'll crank it and instead of starting it kind of sputters and dies. I can always get it started, it just seems kind of hesitant. Usually it just runs kind of rough and then dies, but when I try it again, it starts. Also, the car seems slow to warm up and the temp gauge reads really low when it's cold out, is this the thermostat sticking open? I'm about to do a tune-up, including new plugs, wires, dist. cap/rotor, air filter and fuel filter, is there anything else I am missing? The car also needs front brakes, I'm getting the rotors from shokan.com, any recommendations on better-than-stock pads? Sorry for all the questions, thanks in advance!

Congradulations on one of the more interesting car choices.

If the temperature is staying low I would definitaly look at replacing the thermostat if you dont the engine will berunning rich and will fowl things up.

the hard starts, there are many possibilities but assuming your hard start is occuring when the engine is cold you may want to investigate the cold start temperature sensor. Search the forum as there are many here who have diagnosed this and can offer better suggestions than I on how best to aproach this issue.

As part of the tune up you may want to run a high quality injector cleaner though once all the new parts in place.

http://cograulations%20on%20one%20of%20the%20more%20ntere sting%20car%20choices/</a

Great, thanks for the help. I will look into that cold start sensor. Is BG 44K a good fuel injector cleaner for Audis? I know it's supposed to be really good for Japanese cars.

Ended up replacing the engine temp sensor for the engine electronics. Runs like a champ now.

I think your tune-up will help a bunch as well.

Has it been raining and wet? Might be getting water in the distributor!
