the tranny is soaked with brake fluid around it, and the hose seems to be ok... i just dont really see how it would leak ontop of the tranny if it went.. am i right or is it a break in the hose close to the slave that i cant see

Perhaps the hose burst right at the fitting at the slave cylinder? Could be a small leak too. I researched a hose replacement thats cheaper then the dealer, the fitting on the slave cylinder is easy to find, its the other end that hose builders have trouble finding.

The aries has things my URQ doesn't even have. Plastic fender liners, hood pad, Error code readouts from computer. very cool. :)

Since I have a master and slave cylinder awaiting install, I took a look at the fittings. They appear to be 12mm x 1mm thread pitch with an INVERTED flare (SAE/convex). Classic Tube ( http://www.classictube.com ) appears to sell adapters that will convert this into standard AN fittings. Once converted you can use readily available AN braided stainless steel line that will look pretty, and last the life of the car.

Part Numbers:
SBH8070: male 12mm x 1mm concave seat to male -3AN (connection at slave cylinder & optionally master cylinder)

The problem I ran into is finding a female version of the above adapter to AN fitting for the opposite side of the rubber hose, its seems to be impossible to find (in SAE/concave seat, classic tube has a ISO/bubble flare female adapter - SBH8069). One alternative I considered is ditching the hard line and running a stainless steel flexible line from the master to slave cylinders. I have no clue if its recommended or safe. (I don't think the pressure raises high enough in the clutch line to present an issue.)

An alternate idea is to replace/reflare the slave end of the hard line with a fitting that one can find. Of course it would be nice if Audi just stuck with industry standard 10mm ISO bubble flares for this system just like the brakes.

when I got my isabelle was to locate the brake fluid leak and fix it (it was losing about half the reservoir a day!) I isolated it to the rubber hose going to the slave and called my AUDI dealer in Dover and got the rubber hose,the cloth braided hose coming off the master cylinder (to be safe and thorough),the bushing,washers, nuts, and the strangely twisted hardline.it was a fairly cheap and easy fix (cost about $130 at cost+10%),took me about 2-2.5 hours with just ramps and my extensive vocabulary of curse words, the only thing that sucked was trying to sprawl across the engine bay to get to the wierd hardline, without breaking anything or falling on the engine! lol. I'll dig up those VAG #'s and post them in about 20 mins. or so. good luck!

853721477= the strangely twisted hard line
431721493= washer for bushing
431721494= washer for bushing
431721489= bushing between hardline and rubber hose
431721465= this is what went on mine the rubber line that goes to the slave
857721453= the blue cloth braided hose coming off the left bottom of the master.
