At about 1,000 miles my Audi started generating a very strong burning smell. I inspected the engine compartment especially near the exhaust area. I did not locate the source. I did that a couple of times with the engine on and off, heater/AC on and off, but nothing. After reading a few posts about similar problems I decided not to worry about it and wait until it goes away. Six days after it started, on a sunny Saturday morning I saw a big white (from ammonia or something) plastic bag stuck to my catalytic / exhaust. I guess, I must've been dragging it all this time with me. Now it's a mess down there. Hopefully the smell will go away soon. If your car stinks, maybe you should look down there first!
