i put the ones from my 90 in.. i think it came out pretty nicely, very happy with it, still need to be wired though, and i even have all the senders around somewhere.. oh and that stupid keypad used to be an alarm, but now its just his (clifford's) nametag, i didnt feel bad cutting holes in it since that was already there, theres a huge hole behind it, its somewhat cracked on top too

I'm just ribbin' ya, man! I like it. You could also use some angle mount rings to trim it out and give a better view from the driver's seat.

Autometer angle rings

But they occupied the diff lock space. Note that when everything is hooked up you may get the oil pressure warning buzzer and oil light, BTDT when I installed my stuff (CGTBrad too). I removed the relay to fix this.

I love the lighting on all the B3 stuff!

have to modify them so they have some "tabs" to fit down into the groove in the dash. Maybe get an extra set of rings and glue some extra pieces in that area to fill the gap. That way the rings would sit on the outermost surface of the dash.

Another thing you could do to get your mounting surface out to the edge of the dash and fill the groove gap is this:

Cut some pieces of 2" pvc pipe to whatever length you need to get from the surface of the dash to the back of the dash face. If you have access to a lathe you could turn out the 1/16" of an inch needed to get the gauge in the piece of pipe. If no lathe is available, you could probably just grind out enough with a Dremel or something in order to get the gauge in. It wouldn't have to be pretty 'cuz the guage will hide it. Fasten in the pieces of pipe (maybe hot glue from the back side?) even with the face of the dash and you'll not only get the gauges even with the face of the dash but it would give you a flat surface onto which to mount the gauges. If you use the angle mount rings you will probably have to do a little relieving of the pipe or make a hole on one side of the pipe for the back of the gauge to stick through, because the gauges would now be going into the pipe at an angle. All that would be behind the face of the dash out of site, so it probably wouldn't be a problem. You might have to remove some more material on the backside of the dash, though, but again, you won't see it. Without seeing the angle rings firsthand, though, I can only guess, but they are cheap enough it might be worth experimenting with.

If you are just going to mount them straight the pvc pipe would be the easiest way to get them in there for now.

Keep us posted on what you come up with.

Next week I will be showing a guage mounting idea I came up with.

Maybe even tilt them up to aim them at the driver's seat better. Don't know well that would work since you already have the holes in your dash. Might have to make them a bit more elliptical.

so i just did everything myself tonight.. installed the pressure sender, ran my own line to the gauge, i have no idea if that relay is even getting power.. i still have it in there because everythings not done yet and i just hooked it up to get it working.. i used the old factory stereo dimmer wire to power the lights, and the remains of a broken glovebox lightswitch (i think thats what it was) for the power and ground.. all's well so far, but its all on its own, so i dont think the light will be affected... if it does buzz.. can you simply pull the relay without having to do a bypass of some kind?

CGTBrad did the gauge swap but used regular 4000 gauges in his CGT and ran into the buzzer problem, as did I. A simple pulling of the relay fixed that problem.

I guess I keep forgetting the 84's came with NO gauges (volr or oil temp).

put it in one of the vents behind the grate and hook up the lighting. it wont be the greatest view but itll keep it out of sight and keep OEM looks..

I guess Brad had the 2.3 as well. Wonder why you didnt have issues with the buzzer but him and I did?

Odd.

I'm working on something for the center vent, which came about a while back when Mikey was looking for ideas to mount his boost gauge. I should have it "showable" tomorrow (Wednesday) for him to check out. It won't be completely functional but it will be done enough to look at.

yea, its cracking, not too too bad, but then theres the stupid alarm thing which has a small hole at each corner, then a huge one behind it for the data cable.. so, i didn't feel bad doing it
