I think when this was "repaired" by the PO's mechanic, they installed the counterweight backwards. My pedal has a lot of play in the rest position (mostly upwards). I threw a brick on the pedal to keep it down on the stop (car off of course) and noticed the throttle wasn't anywhere near touching the WOT switch. Great for fuel economy I'm sure, but not what I would call safe if I need the car to move. It looked like they at least installed the correct OEM bushings when they did the repair.
In other news, I broke off the plastic posts holding the steering wheel cover. The horn still works, but now I have a "quick release" cover. Hopefully epoxy or crazy glue will fix that. Also Audi dealer techs did a nice job butchering the cluster cover when they replaced it in 1990.

mine falls off at the bat of an eye... kinda dangerous actually. I had it fall off when turning and lodged itself b/n the turning stalk and the wheel and wouldn't let me straighten out the wheel. I jerked it back hard and thankfully it came unlodged w/o breaking anything.
I have mine wired in place for the moment, but you CAN replace those little stalks in the wheel w/o gluing, etc, though it's evident the PO of my car has done this in the past. I have a buddy hooking me up with a couple spares he has... but you might be able to get 'em new, or at least from a junk yard FWIW.

Looks like they are part of the steering wheel itself, I'll have to glue them back on. Did you pass inspection with it like that? I have to pass this car next month.

is a hex head, correct? they should screw out... though I haven't tried yet. I have a buddy who said he has the screw ins, so I'm assuming they're removable.
And yes, it passed inspection, but only because I wired it (diagonal wire across the wheel) so it doesn't fall off ;)

So thats my story, and thats how mine was when i got the car. my pedal has maybe 1/2" - 1" of up travel.
Ill have to get another bushing for the other half...
and no cuts or scrapes!! but yes, there were some words...
[sorry about the less than spectacular pictures.. my cameraphone was the only thing that would fit in there]
