As has been documented many times in this forum, I started my 99.5 1.8t Saturday night, moved it into the garage and shut it off. Upon starting the next morning it ran rough for about twenty seconds and the check engine light came on. I stopped at the dealer this morning to have the code checked and they reported the code as "random misfire". The solution that the dealer proposes seems fairly extreme to me. They told me that they need to replace the thermostat (92 degree versus stock 87), do a carbon cleaning, replace the spark plugs and change the oil. The car only has 2900 miles on it, so changing the oil prior to the recommended 5k concerns me. Additionally, it doesn't seem like enough carbon could ever build up in 2900 miles to cause any problems.
Anyone had a similar experience?
turns its 'check engine' light on one day's morning. I scheduled an appointment with my dealer. Just one day before my appointment, the light goes off itself automatically. Dunno why? And what cause it before. By that time, the car is just around 3000km (as I'm in Canada). And I didn't make any modification at that time yet.
But within that week, one thing scared me that as I drive on a street, the car suddenly liked stalling (my car is tiptronic). It feels exactly like someone hits your back. Then it goes again. Dunno why??
After it, my car has no more problem.

I had 2 check engine lights:
1. mile 2650, dealer replaced evaporator purge valve.
2. mile 3300, at first dealer could not find anything wrong, then they found it was to be the coolant temp. sensor. Perhaps it was kinda funny coz I mentioned that the coolant was kinda low.
Also, similar experience about Tip acting up. Mine was more like it threw the gear to one when slowing down abruptly. However, it has not happened for a while (at least 500 miles) since.

Although I'd read the archive material on the perils of starting the car, moving it in or out of the garage, then stopping it, I did this no less than THREE times (duh!) last weekend with no extended driving in between. Sure enough, this morning I started it up and it ran rough for 15 secs, then smoothed out, but the MIL came on. I called the Audi Service Adviser at the local dealership and explained the situation. She said that as long as it stays smooth I can wait 'till my first oil change I'd already scheduled (11 Nov), but that if I noticed any more roughness to drive it right over and she'd have it looked at right away.
