If so:

Are you SURE?!!!

Same wheel bearings?

Anyone know if they are still available new?

I checked one parts source, and the part is listed as the same as for a mid-'80s 5KTQ......and everyone says that those hubs do NOT fit my assembly. If they did, I could get used ones SUPER cheap.

Help?

Derracuda over on MG did an odd 5 lug swap on a 4000 quattro using some 5000tq bits, I think. He has a writeup over there on his project thread, but he also used some shims to make this possible.
If you want 5 lug (is that what you are after?) Id maybe look at his page. The Urq 5 lug seems more safe and the way to go, though.

They range from using URQ assemblies (great, if you have them!) to modifying 5KTQ strut assemblies, to using a mixture of 90/5TQK/URQ/VW Golf parts.

Yes, 5 lug, not larger brakes, etc. is my objective.

AND, even if I did it the way Derracuda did his (90 strut assemblies, 5KTQ hubs, some other brakes) it uses 4KQ REAR axles swapped to the front. My 4cyl. 4K automatic (the auto. being the likely deciding factor) would probably need different length axles.

SO.....I would love to be able to just press in some 5x112 hub, drill my rotors to the 5 lug pattern, and go. Can it be done? I don't think it HAS on a 4 cyl. 4K.

Make sure you can get the replacement parts you may want before getting too committed.

Some Differences between the 4kQ front and Urq struts:

-Urq strut uses a larger hub and hub bearing (urq front bearing is same size as the 5Kt front and 4Kq rear. Probably relates to the change in driveshaft size and length too)

-Urq struts uses a different size (larger diamater diamater 'peg') lower balljoint (But the urq balljoint will fit in a 4kq/4k A arm)

-Urq struts have a different diamater tierod end hole in the steering arm (but a specific VW tierod end wii fix that for you)

As the urq bits are probably getting more rare that the alternatives, maybe one of your mentioned alternatives would be a better solution?

83 5KT hubs are the same as UR hubs....
They will not work for two reasons...

1) The UR/83 5KT hubs use larger bearings, 69MM for the 4K 4cyl and 75MM for the UR

2) The splines are different.

Now... if you used UR housings and ball joints and hybrid shafts, it might work.

I've wanted to do the 5X112 swap on my 4K non quattro for a long time, but its even less fesable on a 4K than a 4KQ ( though the rears would be super easy)
