I ordered my 1.8TQ in August and since I could not decide on a colour I just blurted out the good old fall back "BLACK". Now don't get me wrong I love black cars but I've never seen a black A4 and am starting to rethink my choice. Did this happen to everyone else? Anyone else with black cars? How does it look?

Mine is not black, but I have seen many black ones and I think it looks great on this car..

My wife's black '97 A6 wagon looks great when it's freshly washed and waxed. But naturally it shows all kids of dirt, and it seems like superficial cratches show up a lot more easily. I learned the importance of a good coat of wax all over again with that car. When we got the A4 this past summer we would've ordered it in black were it not for the fact that we already own one black car....didn't wanna have a monotone garage! So I got a silver A4 --- with a black onyx interior. :-)

Black looks sharp. One reason I like it is that it blends with the black trim all around the bottom that all A4s have (except the S). IMO, because of this, black (and the other dark colors, volcano and less so the santorin blue) cars have a more "seated" look about them.

I had a '97 yellow A4 first, and I am so much happier with black. The "loud" color, while it looked great on the A4, grew tiresome and didn't always suit my mood. Color to me is all about personality and what you like. Black looks good day and night, rain or shine. Not too good when dirty though. Keep it clean.

if i could go back in time to when i purchased my audi, i wouldve certainly have chosen yellow.
silver and black are by far the most popular colors. why be normal?

I used to have a 96 A42.8 qm. The black looked awesome. I really did. I loved it. But it is in a WHOLE different league cleaning wise. I mean i couldn't wash it in the sun or i'd get water spots. I couldn't spray water on it when washing, needed to use constant water stream, otherwise i would get water spots. During pollen season, it would be clean for about 15 minutes. Bird crap on the paint....forget it... there would be a semi-permanent stain. Again black looks great, and i do miss it occasionally, but it takes a LOT of work.

Hey JR,

Actually, I know what you're saying. It just depends on the kit, and the look you're after. I wouldn't put an Abt kit on my black car because you're right, all the little scoops and vents would get lost on the black. But a Projektzwo kit like what I have really works well with the black. I think black looks great WITH or without a body kit. Take a look at my website and tell me if you agree. :-)

But what a pain it is to keep clean!!! =Þ

I have *never* received more compliments about a car's color than my A4 with it's Santorin Blue paint. With the light at the right angle the purple undrtones in the paint really come out!
