Freaking power steering pump.

Anyways, my fan isn't coming on (not that it was before, thus the replacement) when the car has been turned off. It will come on if I turn the key back to the 1st position but when I turn the key off again, the fan stops. Is there possibly a relay missing or is this normal?

Does it turn on with the ignition on after a drive and the car has gotten up to temp? If so, its completely normal. My 4k does it after its been running hot and I turn the car off (if I turn the ignition on again, the fan turns on).

It will turn on when the needle is getting close to the 2nd bar from the top of the gauge and go off after a few minutes. If I stop the engine while the fan is running, the fan shuts off. If I turn the key back to the 1st position, the fan starts up again.

She used to not kick on till between the 2nd and 3rd line from the top. But after replacing the thermostat, this is the hottest she'll get before kicking on, and is usually on at the line just under my little red arrow:

Is it normal for the fan not to run when the engine has been shut off?

I know in my mom's 1988 90q, her fan stays on after you shut the engine off. My S4 also has an after-run fan that remains running after the engine is off. This is NOT the case with 4kqs...so yours sounds normal. :)

Your situation sounds very normal. Only on hot hot hot days will the fan turn on when the car is off and key is not in the "on" position. It may take a minute or two after shutdown for that to happen anyhow.

Never got past the 1st lower bar. It's a little weird having this one get to the 2nd from the top.
