Right now I think it sucks! I just went to to my car (cold, wind whipping my face) to find out I had left the stereo on all day... dead battery.
It's easy to overlook because I have it hooked via auxiliary to an iPod, so when I put my iPod in my pocket to go into work I often forget the damned head unit is still on. This weekend I'm wiring it to turn off with the ignition.

I don't think having the stereo 'unswitched' is a good idea. Does anyone *like* it that way, or have any idea why it's set up that way?
So..
I wired my 'ignition' feed to my stereo to the 'key is in' switch, that goes to the 'don't forget to take out you key' buzzer.
As I don't think that the 4000q really has an 'acessory' position, this lets me turn on the stereo without having all of the fan and stuff come on.
All I have to do is have the keys in the ignition for tunes!
(Tap into the skinny Brown/Red wire coming out of the ignition switch)

When you hit power on the faceplate the backlight stays lit, so in order for it to be off I need to remove the faceplate. I've been meaning to rewire it for a while, but I've been too lazy

Like to listen to music while fiddeling around the car, and do not like to leave the key behind.
But my radio is hooked up to the buzzer alarm for the lightswithc.
So if i remove the key, with the radio on, and open the drivers door, it will sream at me, so i NEVER forget to switch it off.
Especially if I want to go out at lunch and sit in the car and listen to the radio. Or if I'm working in the garage and want to listen to the radio or mp3 player and the keys are in the house.

But I'm not a big fan. Huw has a few tips on wiring up aftermarket stereos:

the original turned off when the key is removed and the sony CD player i put in turns off the same way. I wired the AC switch(i pulled the AC out) to override the shutoff and only when that switch is on does the stereo stay on without the key. Why does yours stay on all the time?
