Hi,
Ive just joined the forum to ask a technical question about front brake callipers. Im trying to find the correct callipers that fit VW A1 hubs, so 75mm or 3" fixing centres and allow 256mm or 10.1" diameter discs. A guy on ebay has a pair of "AUDI URQ Brake Calipers 4000 Turbo Quattro Coupe 1983" but i'm not sure they are the correct ones?
Can any one out there help me out?!

The calipers should work, but if you're upgrading an A1 chassis VW to 10.1" front brakes, why not just get the parts from a Scirocco 16V?

That would be the ideal, but 16 valvers are not common at all here in the UK and some people i have asked didnt think they all had the 256's.
Do you happen to know of any 16v calipers for sale?

To the best of my knowledge(and from what my UK/Europe version of ETKA tells me) all 16V Sciroccos cam with 256mm front rotors. The nice part is that the rotors and calipers for your application are the same as most Mk3 Golf and Vento(If I'm not mistaken, all 4-bolt Mk3s in the UK 1.8L and up used 256mm rotors). The only part that you will need to source from another car is the caliper carrier, which the Mk3 calipers will bolt directly to. Cars you can snatch the parts from:
Caliper Carrier:
'83-87 Audi 90/90 Quattro
'81-87 Audi Coupe/Coupe Quattro
'85-88 Passat/Passat Syncro (5-cyl)
'85-92 Scirocco 16V
Caliper:
'83-91 Audi 100/100Q
'85-93 Audi 90/90Q
'81-88 Audi Coupe/CQ
'85-95 Scirocco/Corrado
'89-98 Golf/Jetta/Vento/Cabriolet
'85-97 Passat/Passat Syncro
Rotors:
'96-01 Caddy
'85-92 Scirocco 16V
'89-95 Corrado 16V
'89-98 Golf/Jetta/Vento/Cabriolet
'99-01 Lupo
'85-97 Passat/Passat Syncro
'95-01 Polo/Derby
That should open up some options for you. Brake pad choice is up to you, as are rotors, and I'd reccomend that you get those new, and get only the calipers and carriers from the breakers. You may also want to think about upgrading the master cylinder to a 22mm unit from a Scirocco 16V. Your standard unit will work fine, but you will have a low pedal. EuroCarParts seems to have some decent deals on the parts you need(better than we get here in the states anyhow), and anything you can afford new I reccomend you buy. Best of luck, and if you need any more help, let me know. :)

http://www.eurocarparts.com/</a

Wow, i found the right person to ask!
Thats brilliant thank you.
Looks like the ones this guy has are correct just gonna cost me in shipping. Older Audi's have proven diffcult to find in local breakers so far, but maybe i'll keep looking.
I already have the bigger master cylinder and i have all the bits to do the rear disc set up.
I do have a long term plan to move the master cylinder so its right over the pedal (as it should be) but that means either losing the servo or getting a remote fitting one.
Anyway thanks a lot for the help.
