View Full Version : Why I carry duct tape in my 4KS...

Apparently after I fixed my broken linkage with a VW Quantum part, the ball and socket joint broke apart, leaving me able to move my shifter in almost any direction with no resistance at all. At least I was able to demonstrate one can get out of traffic safely while only having 5th gear to work with (and from a dead stop too!).

So no crap, there I was, in the rain, with a roll of 3M High Heat Orange tape, and the thing shift better than ever. Who knew?

FYI: Yes, I'm bored, but I thought I would post anyways.

Morgan: I still don't have a real job yet.... The curse of having a law degree....

as for the job, working sucks anyway. AW keeps me sane while I'm at the office. I'd go back to school in a heartbeat.

I convinced my commander AW was a bonafide asset to the US military as it provides quick and knowledgeable advice on the upkeep of the entire US Government's Audi fleet, which at this point consists of one non-running Audi Fox, and a couple of 4KQ's, and 5KQ Turbos.

P.S. There are rumors high altitude USAF bases (that also get a lot of snow) will be testing out a couple A4 1.8T Quattros as SP patrol vehicles. Apparently the Impalas they have can't quite cut it. I heard that there is not an equivalent American made car, and the SUV's they have are gas guzzlers to the extreme. But just a rumor....

Friends Talon had one hold his CV on for about a year, maybe more, it was pretty funny.

they agree it is better in the snow then the Crown Vic but they say they are junk and ended up buying a fleet of new Crown Vics instead. American cars are definately lower quality though. But either way you go, Domestic or Import you are faced with positives and negatives. I've found European cars to higher maintance then American cars. Every European car I've owned has spent more time in the garage and off the road then any American car I've owned. Yeah we could get 300K miles out of them, but only with constant up keep which most people can't afford to keep up with. I've also seen American cars go 2-300K miles. It all boils down to maintaining the vehicle. Proper oil changes, tune-ups etc. Honestly, I grew up with European cars and Chevys. And I've had the best luck with a Ford.

Which is why they don't just use SUV's like they have been. A 1.8T gets around 30mpg, and a Hemi 300C gets about 18-22. That adds up real fast when you drive the thing 24-7
