2000 A4 1.8TQMS Santorin/Opal

Ordered 7/21, arrived yesterday. Picked it up today! 350 miles already (dealer is 275 miles away)

It may just be me, but this thing feels MUCH faster than the other two we test-drove(99.5's). This thing is very quick. I think the Valentine One is going to be a must!

Thanks to Steve S. and a bunch of other A4.org forum regulars for making us Audi converts. The '97 Accord is history!

I thought the exact same thing. My '00 1.8TQM feels much quicker than any other A4 I test drove, even though it isn't broken in yet. Maybe it's just my enthusiasm, but it's great!!

Congrats!

Shouldn't make a difference, right?

After one day with our 2000 A4 1.8TQMS...

It's quicker than I remembered from my test drives of 99.5's. Could just be my imagination, but it hits about 4k rpm and just takes off! This thing could be seriously entertaining with a chip.

It hates cross-winds. I drove about 150 miles yesterday with a 30-mph cross wind. It takes serious concentration and a lot of steering corrections to deal with it. Steering feel is quite good overall, though, so it makes up for it.

The base stereo (non-Bose) is actually better than I expected. Took a little messing around with the controls, but I'm impressed with the imaging and the overall sound. I had planned on upgrading with aftermarket stuff, but I think I can put it off for a while.

Traction and stability are quite impressive, especially compared to my front-drive no-traction-control 97 Integra. Took a quick sweeping uphill left-hander. Discovered loose gravel at exit of corner. Car hooked up and A4 slot-car blasted through the corner. I then decided to breathe again. Fun! Scary...but fun!

Very quiet. Not much road noise. A little wind noise around the windows, but quite good overall. The engine is so smooth and subdued that it seems impossible that it's a 1.8L 4-cyl.

Love the color combo (Santorin/Opal), though it's going to be impossible to keep the exterior clean. And, now I understand the complaints about brake dust!

I love the 10-spoke wheels with this color. I know a bunch of people hate them, but I think that they look a lot bigger than they really are and it makes the car look more agressive.

Anyway, more impressions to come as the miles pile on. So far, we love it!

I have a Garrett chipped 1.8T and it really
pulls hard, much harder than stock. From about
3k on up, it really takes off and the revs build
really quickly. Now, with a Borla exhaust, it is
even more responsive. I feel like I can take on
M3s now, although that may not be the case. Definitely about a 210 hp car, by seat of the pants feel. The scary thing is, the S4 is even more effortless, although the handling is terrible compared to my H&R coilover setup. :-)

I drove several 99.5's while shopping and was surprised when I finally got to drive the '00. It feels like it has just a little more torque (?).

The stock radio is pretty clean sounding but it doesn't have much low bass. I put in a self amplified Bazooka and am very happy.

The next one will probably be an S4. The Integra might have to go sooner than planned!
