I'm going to put a quattro drivetrain into a vw golf. Does anyone have a 4kq with a blown motor, or the whole drivetrain.
The car that I'm putting the drivetrain into already has a full cage and is totally striped down. This is going to be my senior engineering project, and I'm trying to gather all the needed parts ahead of time.
Best Regards,

how about the floor? are you cutting a trans/driveshaft tunnel into the golf floor or are you replacing it with a 4kq floor? the quattro system has an independent rear, that requires some work too.. and does it fit front to rear and side to side? or are you using your own driveshafts? your best bet is probably to pick up a parts 4kq off ebay or somthing, i dont know of anyone who has just the drivetrain. also email chris@force5auto.com if you havent yet, hell have a lot of stuff you might need. lets have the details and good luck!
and btw.. i like how your senior project leaves you with a quattro golf;)

They actually have AWD Golfs and Passats. The main problem with using a 4kq driveline is the orientation of the engine; the 4kq's engine is longitudinal, while the Golf uses a transverse layout. Bear in mind, too, that you'll need the rear floorpan and gas tank from a Rallye Golf, too. If you use a transverse AWD driveline, you shouldn't have to worry about the driveshaft tunnel; I believe it'll have plenty of clearance. Exhaust routing will be an issue, though.

I live in portland Oregon. I'm going to put it into my 89 vw golf. Syncro is weak and thats why I'm not going that route, plus its $$$.

I'm actually thinking about doing a v6 because its short and would leave me room for a radiator. I have a 2.5L eurovan motor that I could throw in, but I don't think it would fit too well. I'm doing a full cage and cutting out the rear of that car and tying the cage into the rear subframe. I have to find a tranny that will bolt up to a 4 cylinder. I've been told the 4kq trannys wont. Does anyone know if the 91 200tq tranny will bolt up to a 4 cylinder?

only 4cyl quattro i know of uses the 1.8T. and that might be a $$ motor to source

only bolt up to the 01A/01E.
Just something to think about...

What is the tranny code in it? What did the 01a/01e come in? What is the new s4 tranny code?

You have an 016 with a TorSen center diff, no workie with a 4banger. 01A started in the '88 80/90q and is still used in A4's.
The 01E was first used as a 5spd in the '92-94 S4 and '95-97 S6. In 6spd guise it is found in the B5 S4 and A6 2.7tq.

So will a v6, i5, i4, and v8 all bolt up to the 01e? I want to start out with a 4 banger then go to a v6 or v8.

They all should bolt to an 01E, but don't hold me to that. You want to get as new of an 01E as you can, 5spd or 6spd. The early ones (up to around '96) had weak, narrow 1st gears that would wear incorrectly with high power (and even stock!) and eat the gear up. Way less than ideal ;-)
