View Full Version : Dilemma!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Something in my auto tranny broke last nite.
Car ('87.5 CGT) doesn't move now.
I guessing/hoping something like a connecting bolt or a pin broke, as the car was in motion at the time. That way it's a simple fix, but then in a way I hope it's something worse.

The dilema is

A)take apart tranny & fix it
B)swap in another auto tranny
C)swap in a 5 spd

The only reason I ever wanted to sell my car before was cause it's auto.
It's got good body, interior, motor, etc.. but I've always disliked the fact it came auto.
Now w/ 3 CGT's and only needing 1 (or maybe 2), what should I do???

I want to pick C), but that's the hardest job.
But w/ A) or B) I'm still stuck w/ auto.

One other option is to swap out the NG into 1 of the '84's & put my done up JT motor into the other.
The thought of killing a special build doesn't appeal to me, but neither does the thought of the NG being held back by the auto tranny anymore.
I can't use the rear discs from the '87.5 as I want to keep the 4x100 bolt pattern w/ my '84's.

If I swap out the NG, do I have to swap ECU & everything? Because neither '84 has an ECU or cat, which are 2 of the 3 reasons I like '84 (the other one is 4x100 bolt pattern).

Also which color/body do U prefer?

1) '84 Tornado Red

2) '84 Ocean Metallic Blue

3) '87.5 Anthracite Black

Damnit thats the worst feeling when an Autobox breaks on you... I would go with plan C)swap in a 5 spd You can probably find one cheaper than a good working auto and it would be much more reliable in the future.

than on any other slushbox.

It also has 108 mm driveshafts vs 100 mm for '84.5 - '87 or 90 mm for '81- '84.

Have to cut out the tranny tunnels & firewall. Never mind all the pedals & stuff I have to do.

Go route B...then fix the trans at your leisure...C is a pain. I'd strip the car, and junk the rest...if I had the space for parts....you could make more than the car is worth just on this page alone.

But would anyone even e-mail me wanting parts from an '87.5 special build?

I'm sure some people might wnat the rear disc's for an easy bolt in conversion.

But what else?
The digi dash?

Idealy I would like to keep it, but who knows.
