The A4 2.8 engine takes:

6.3 qts / 6.0 L with filter
5.8 qts / 5.5 L without filter

Oil drain-plug torque = 36.9 ft/lbs / 50 Nm

my last oil change is at the begining of June and I've run for 4K miles, is it normal? or the oil level is too low? I think I am going to run 1K for this month (Nov). Actually I still have one month to go for the next oil change as the warranty recommand. Actually I prefer change oil every 3 month, but I just wonder if it is okay for changing it for every 6 month...?

not all cars will. I burned some on mine. Have not had to add any since.

When my 30v 2.8 was delivered 3 weeks ago the oil level on the dipstick was approx. 2/3 of the way up the dimpled area between the orange doohickeys (sorry for the technical terms - hope you can follow this). This was with the car level and hours from being driven. I assume that the obsessive compulsive anal-retentive krauts that built car this put EXACTLY the right amount of oil in and that this is effectively the full level for my car. As you've probably discovered, the owner's manual (affectionately known as the FM on this forum) has a rather vague diagram that leaves open to question whether the dimpled (stippled?) area represents the "full" and "add" limits or whether the total area between aforementioned orange doohickeys (doohickies?) represents these points.

The only way to know the correct oil level on the dipstick is to change the oil and filter yourself and put in EXACTLY the right amount of oil.

After a hard 5.5 hour high speed drive, half of which was though mountainous terrain and half of which was 70 - 75 mph freeway driving, I arrived at my destination (two days ago) with 875 miles on my new baby and the oil level at the top of the bottom orange doohickey on the dipstick. I added 18 oz of 10W30, according to the graduations on the side of the oil container. This put the oil level between the top of the stippled area and the bottom of the top doohickey (gripping saga, hunh?). This would indicate that the total area between the doohickies represents no more than than quart of oil.

Any other experiences or opinions??
