Since it was nice today, I planned out some things to do for the 4kq. First, get summer tires repaired, balanced, and on the car. Second, replace that stupid SOB air filter. Both were done today, first the filter, then the rims/tires.
I was suprised how easy the air filter was. After all the talk of it being sort of a PITA, it wasnt. I needed an extra set of hands, luckily my friend called me and asked for a ride, his TSI was getting an alignment. Hardest part was taking out the headlight, Ive taken them out many times, but it always sucks. After that, I undid the clips, removed the intake boot, then I lifted and moved the top of the box with the FI stuff and my friend simply pulled the filter out! Then it of course was replaced by a MANN filter (pictured below with me). Some others also asked to see pictures of the brakes, there are also below, one of the front, one of the rear.
Oh, also note how nasty the "bowl" is where the plunger thingy is, its clean now, but there were remnants of oil, ack!

Hehehe.
That's not a hole in that hose, I think it's a wrinkle in the vinyl shield over it?
You took the headlight out to do the filter? Gee, you're way smarter than I am. I think my knuckles are still healing.

I dont see how the filter RR can be done without removing the headlight. I looked at the space and thought "nope, that headlight is gonna have to come out". Since Ive gotten somewhat decent at taking those stupid headlight assemblies out, it wasnt bad. After that, it was maybe 15 mins tops and we were done, and I was clamping everything back down, and putting the summer tires back on.
Time to tackle more tasks!
