Just like a couple of weeks ago when several of you helped out, in 4th and 5th gears the engine creeps up inn spedd - it doesn't pull the car - I remember that years ago when the engine was rebuilt/modified (and before some mechanic messed with the fuel distributor forcing me to get a new one) the car had great top speed +125mph. ...And based on your feedback, I agree there is definitely something wrong...
Here is what has been done.
1) New coil and plugs 3 prong (not plats)and repeated adjustment of the distributor
2) The mechanic shunted the cold start injector with the full throttle switch.
3)Installed a free flow K&N filter and directed the air intake hose to the grill.
4) tweaked the screw (1/2 turn) on the pressure regulator.
Each of these has contributed to make the car quicker through the gears - but in top speed doesn't clear 100-105mph (in Portugal, you can still get away with this).

Is there some electronic switch/ sensor which could be holding the car back ? ... the full throttle switch ... any checks we should run with the fuel system ?
Thanks

Have you done a timing belt change since the mods? Belt could be off a tooth, or it may have just jumped a tooth.

He had already checked that possibility - it's OK.
Since this project (bringing the car back to life)over the last year, many components were regularly renewed.
He changed the injectors - said he used the quattro reference for these... so theys hould be OK ?

The other was the fuel pump - if he put one in for a 110 hp KX engine, could it now be insufficient ?

Injectors and fuel pump from the KX work fine with my 2.3.

...with your help , I'm confident we'll find the problem.

For all who read this...
Just for benchmarking purposes... How fast do your CGT's go ?

I've only taken mine up to 108mph so far. I seem to have a bit of a shimmy at the upper range so I backed off as it became more pronounced at that speed.

Did you say that in 4th and 5th your engine speed increases but doesn't pull the car? Have you checked your clucth? It may be slipping.

Hope that helps,

Wilson.

and directing the air intake toward the grille, while sounding like it will help, actually does nothing. even a true "ram-air" system only creates about 1/10 of a psi at 60 miles per hour. the thing with CIS, is that at any given point, you will be running too rich or too lean on the fuel, try turning the pressure regulator back to normal, you may be running too rich.

I still have the original 1.9L with only 104,000mi on it. No major work done yet, but it will get up over 100mph, it takes a little longer than it used to. I swaped the 85mph speedo for a 120mph, how can I peg this one? The 85mph was easy, could peg that one in third, but this one is a challenge.
