Hi guys Im a newbie on this board but Ive been in v-dubs for quite a while(my first car was actually a 5000S) and I have a couple of questions for you. Does anybody know anything about 2.6L engines (short blocks) because a friend told me he saw an ad for them one time somewhere. I am questioning this as I have another friend with an '85Q and we want to change the motor this summer. The car has currently 280k on it but it has gone through 2 engines allready. So we were wondering if anybody knows anything about putting in a bigger engine and if there is any other stuff like cam, exhaust available for it. Thanks

I have been thinking about doing the same thing, but I have a lot of reservations especially with the 2550cc and the 95.5mm stroke it has. They probably had to make clearance inside the block also, how did they increase the stroke on the crank? Is it welded? What about the rods, when you make such a drastic increase in the stroke it increases the amount of rod angularity (more vibration).

Usually to increase engine size, a manufacture (VW) will increase the stroke (from 86.4mm to 92.8mm on the 2.0L) and the deck height so they can use longer rods to reduce angularity (and vibrations).
A good compromise would be the 2482cc with the 92.8mm stroke, I would still like to speak with people who have that engine and see how it runs and how the durability is.

eurospec

Hello,

Iīm a germann freak of this cars. You can put the 2.6 and 2.8 Liter V6 Motor into evry car wich has got a 5 or 6 Cylinder inside. The Prob with V6 are the Cooler, you donīt have a front wich you can change by screws.

In Germann a 5 Cylinder runs already 300.000 KM with out Probs. I Have got 12 peace of the Audi 90 Quattro Bulding Year 85. 3 one are over 300.000 KM.

Its easyer do put an another Motor like a Turbo from a 200/5000 into the Typ 85.

http://jensrosenbohm.bei.t-online.de/Quattropilo/Nr1%20vo%20li.jpg</a

Now THAT's got me thinkin. WOW, I was wondering what Oettinger did with those 90's over in europe, now I know. I think the 2.5 is around 170hp from what I have been told. Sounds pretty good to me.
