the 4000 came fully galvinized? I thought I heard that by 87 all 4000's were...?

But, I believe it was 1985 when they introduced the newer body style. Im sure I will be corrected though, its purely an educated guess.

I thought it was 1987, too... another case of purely anecdotal evidence to support this is that when I was searching for Audis, most 84-86 cars seemed to have significant rust, whereas this '87 I found was the first quite rust-free example I could find. Perhaps just coincidence but thought I would mention it. I do have an Audi "full product line" dealer sales brochure from 1986, and the book mentions "extensive use of galvanized body panels," but whether that's "full-dip" galvanization is open to question.

If anyone ever wants me to scan that 1986 brochure, let me know, it's pretty cool. I would need to know what file format would be best for people: JPEG, PDF, etc.

The bodies were galvanised when the new style 80 and 90 came out, they came with a 10 year anti-corrosion guarantee!! I believe the larger (5000?) were always made with galvanised steel.<ul><li><a href="http://forums.delphi.com/audi80and90">http://forums.delphi.com/audi80and90</a</li></ul>

Audi didn't start galvanizing their 80/90/4000 cars until 88 from what I understand.

the 80 (4000) came with galvanized body from modelyear 87', that is from august 86' when the new modellyear starts. I now because i have a 86' still running, but...
the 100 (5000) were galvanized from modelyear 86', from august 85' when the 86' modell production started...
