The owner of the 87.5 CGT I'm looking at informs me that the outer 2 sections of the digital dash lighting are out. Hre says the light from the middle one bleeds through enough for it to be visible (The digital guages work fine, only the lighting is bad). But my question is how hard is it to change out the bulbs in the digital dash or can it even be done? I know in my 1998 Passat, there is 1 central LED that lights the whole dash so that you cannot replace it easily if it goes out. How hard is it to do on an 87.5 with digital dash?

Each section has its own bulb.

The instrument cluster needs to be removed to change the bulbs.

Once removed, the bulbs are a snap to change.

However, they take a very special bulb which costs around $10 each.

Too high wattage bulb, and you melt plastic!
