On the 4KQ that I might be getting, it has the switch for Im guessing the quattro system. But having never been in one, what are the #1 and #2 settings? I'll probably get made fun of for the question, but level with me. Heh. Thanks!

Center and rear/center differential locks. Great for running in deep snow or muddy roads. Check and make sure that the actuators actually work. They are vacuum controlled and are known to fail if not maintained.
(a lot of people have replaced the vacuum actuators with electronic ones. Do a search on this at the audifans sight)

So...its basically to turn the quattro system off?
the quattro system is always "on". The switch allows you to lock the differentials (for even greater traction in severe weather or difficult conditions) as explained in the previous posts. I live in Ontario, Canada and have never "needed" to engage the locks in the winter. Even without the diffs locked, this car is incredible in the snow.
