Alright, today I had unprecidented luck. I visited 2 junkyards and saw 10 Audis total, none of which were 4000's! I saw at least 6 1983 or 1984 5000's. Talk about old school, but I bet they would be neat. Anyhow, it looks like i can get an 86 4KQ for 200 bucks, my friend wants to get rid of it. What do i need to look for, besides the obvious? Would it be worth taking? If not, Im just gonna nab the spoiler.

Alright, I took a look at the car. It is a 1985 4000S Quattro. Been sitting in the garage since December of 99. Either the fan motor or switch is bad, and battery is dead. Passenger front window doesnt go up(motor). I wasnt able to hear it, hence the battery. Odometer stopped at 60K, but driven from Kansas without a problem. I thought it would be a steal at just 200 bucks, they just want to get rid of it, its taking up garage space.
Is it much of a deal, or am I just wasting my time?? Help! heh

Thats what Im thinking, but I actually wanna drive it. All the mechanics seem to be in good order, I think I'll buy it

The reason why the car hasnt been run in a year or so is because the owner says the fan motor doesnt work. Im curious to know, is the fan motor from a regular 4000 the same as on the 4000 Quattro?? If so, then I can nab one at a junkyard for cheap. Any info is appreciated, thanks!

Yes...
but the fan motor may not be bad there is a temp switch in the radiator that can fail..
you can test it by jumpering the two leads with the ignition on.
if this doesn't work i would check the relay in the fuse box...

HTH!

there are 2 prong and 3 prong fans, 2 for one fan power voltage and the 3 prong for high and low power voltage using a relay i think to control the desired power
