View Full Version : How difficult is it to replace water pump on 4000CSQ? ColoradoMark 07-13-2001, 11:36 AM Getting car for my son tomorrow and thought this might be a good job for him to cut his teeth on. TIA MikTip 07-13-2001, 04:43 PM It involves R&R'n the timing belt. Something you dont want to "play around" with or let someone inexperienced "have a go" at. Camshaft sprocket need to come off to remove the metal cover infront of the water pump. Timing needs to be set, maintained, and verified afterwards. A few "special tools"......... You really need some sort of reference material to do the job, or your going at it the blind. Dwight V. 07-14-2001, 05:31 AM Removing the crank pulley is a job that can't be described in anything less than a string of profanity. Two special tools are needed, and as mentioned the timing belt must be dealt with. Luckily, this job isn't frequently needed. However, do NOT buy anything but a top quality water pump for exactly this reason. Most of the aftermarket pumps are not very good quality and will not last long, and you'll have to deal with this all over again. Buy a good German made pump and forget about it for the next 5-10 years. Oh yeah, and let me remind you that the timing belt tension is very finnicky. Too tight and it wills squeak like mine :( ColoradoMark 07-14-2001, 06:31 AM |
